  • Golf 90TSI DSG stalling

    Hi,

My wife's car has stalled on her twice now as she has come to a stop at an intersection. Both times it has occurred within 500 metres of home. She is able to start it again without problems

    Has anyone else experienced this?

    Cheers,
    Dave.

Is the car rolling up hill to the intersection? Is she stopping fully? Or just slowing down almost to a stop? In drive or sport mode? Is it coming home or when leaving home with a cold engine?

It happens on level ground. She is fully stopped but it could occur just before stopping. The two times it has happened she is leaving home and she has drive selected.

Up here is Darwin cars get to operating temp quickly. The first occurrence I would say the engine was half way to being at normal operating temp. On the second occurrence the car had been driven earlier so would be very close to being at normal operating temp.

There is a ECU flash update for this and a few other issues
Go to your dealer to sort it out

That's interesting. How'd you hear about that?

Mine's stalled a couple of times, but it wasn't a problem at the time (once I remembered to turn the ignition off fully before restarting that is).

Perhaps from VW Golf VI - typical faults and problems, recalls
Although if it is the same issue it should have been addressed on any 90tsi after July last year which would mean all of the ones here in oz. So cause could be something totally different.

Does the stalling only effect 90TSI's fitted with DSG or is it getting manuals as well?

Maybe take it on a bit of a high-speed run on the highway (if it doesn't get that already) - blow any crud outta the engine..

                          Regards,
                          - Anthony.

Been down the Stuart Hwy on a drive. 130km/h speed limit. 90% of driving is done in 80km/h and 100km/h zones.

                              Hi Dave,
I have a brand new 90TSI in Perth and the exact same thing is happening with my car (happens about once a week). It can actually be quite dangerous as last time my engine cut out in the middle of an intersection as i was waiting to turn right. In the time it takes to get the car going again someone could clean you up. I took it into the dealer and they couldn't find anything wrong and they couldn't replicate the problem (what are the chances on a 5min test drive they were going to replicate it) and so they said they would register my problem and if they can fix it in the future they will call me. It has happened twice since then.
Please let me know if you get any updates on the problem, i am going to call them again this week.
In all other aspects though i am loving the car.
