problem is that VW is a pretty hot commodity... people will buy them without test driving them

i understand having demonstrators and the hassle of giving test drives is a burden for dealers

i haven't driven a Mk6 but I fear I will be dissappointed... I have driven many cars that the test drive just put me off

eg. i haven't driven a single modern Toyota I liked

i suspect there's even a lot of people who buy new cars without driving them and then sell them shortly... do the dealers care? no

that just helps the whole revolving door process

Hmm, stock level must of changed 6 months ago. There were at least one 118 and 90 at all the dealers back then. Have you try ipswich. How about as used one? Or even some nice member in this forum might help you out with their 90Tsi.

Austral have a 90 TSI manual in stock, they advertised it as a demo on the weekend.

It's a bit of a problem - I can clearly see that all dealers cannot have all models available for a drive.

I can also see that people would not fork out $30g or more "sight unseen" (although I did buy my GTI without having seen one in BG with Latte).

I think the bitching would be louder if you walked in to the dealer and said I want to buy that xxx model out the front, and the dealer said "no way, that's our demonstrator - you will have to wait till the next shipment gets here in 3 months".

There's no real solution, and the situation will not change any time soon.

At least you guys and girls are attempting to test drive before you buy

We had two lots of elderly customers trade in perfectly fine low-milage VT Commodores for Daewoo-built Holden Vivas, without barely as much as skimming through the brochures. On both accounts, they have probably been our most demanding customers (to put it in the nicest possible way).

Perhaps there should be a counter-attack on the 'lemon laws'.

              Test Drives

              Hi All,

Well we put the feelers out today rang some dealers, emailed, did everything we could to find a car to test drive.

At the weekend, there was not a 90TSI Manual to drive anywhere (we looked) but today they are falling from the sky

This morning, my wife was contacted by 2 dealers who had 90TSI manuals to drive and we have arranged a test drive for Saturday morning.

One dealer explained the problem....we are looking for a 90TSI Manual....70% of Golfs sold are diesels and 90%are DSG (according to the dealer) so the model we are looking for is "rare as" in his words.......roll on Saturday...

                Doesn't surprise me.
I could only test an auto Tiguan in petrol and diesel at the Austral open night.

Ended up buying a manual 125TSI without having a test-drive in one becasue no one had any

The last couple of cars the wife and I have been leased. What I do is ring the leasing company find out who the contact at the dealer ship is and go and see them .
No need to see a sale's person and the leasing contact gave us the keys to a couple different cars to test drive without having a sales person in the back seat

                  Cheers

                    Oh i hear that
My wife can't understand why i want to pay $50k for a GTI when we could get "a hatchback" (i.e a corolla) for half that

On the topic of test driving a certain model... sure a dealer can't stock a car with every different option... but the difference between a diesel/petrol or auto/manual can be significant

I must have been really lucky. It was my Wife that convinced me to buy the GTI over any other.

It looked, felt and drove better then anything else we looked at.

It helped that technically the GTI is "her" car.

                        Hi all,

My wife and I are in the market for a new Golf (to replace my MKIV) We have settled on a 90TSI Manual but before handing over our hard earned dollars, we need to take one for a test drive.

There in lies the problem.....it appears that no dealer within cooee of here has one....of any colour...of any spec...to test drive.

                        Are they so rare?

My wife rang a dealer this morning (before we drove 100km to their site) to enquire if they had a 90TSI manual that we could drive and was told that we could drive a TDI DSG........."as they had the same interior"

My wife quickly pointed out that the manual obviously had a different interior as they had to make provision for a 3rd pedal!!!!! (such a smart ass sometimes)

I am at a loss as how the salesman could think that a test drive in a TDI DSG would be the same experience as driving a TSI Manual.

The first to give me a test drive in a 90TSI Manual gets the sale !!!!!!
I had to settle down by driving a 90TSI manual before I got my 118TSI DSG!
The dealer had no car as well and I was told that about 40 people had booked the car without doing a test drive! So I was bit more lucky to get a 90TSI Manual to do a test run!
