B Pillar clicking / ticking & door rubber / seal creaking / squeaking
Thanks vwsp! I have my car booked in to get the rear washer fixed coz it drips water on hard accelerations. I'll also ask them about the clicking noise. Will keep you guys posted
I've booked mine in for the rear wiper washer fix, but they want to look at it before ordering parts - is that normal? it means at least two trips to the dealer now and you usually have to book hire cars at Highway a month in advance.
G-rig, I'd say in the case where it's a known fault for which VW have issued a fix for, you'd think they could just order the damn parts. The only reason for wanting to take a look at it is if they believe the car would have already shipped with the fix in place.
I'd probably do what you've said - send them a photo, and then if they still don't cooperate, maybe have a chat with the service manager and see what they want to do for you for having to do a second unnecessarily trip on a well known problem for which VW have issued a fix. lol
When I called them up about the dripping washer, they didn't ask me anything and ordered it straight away. They did tell me that the part will take about a month to arrive from Germany.
Re: Clicking noises on the B pillar (where the seatbelt is)
Cheers guys will try that. Just a bit of root around going back a few times then driving back to the city in the peakhour traffic.
The B-pillar trims seem a bit flimsy on the MK4/MK5, but i assume they have to be for the curtain airbags to be released. Still annoying the plastic around the seatbelt area but you can usually press it and it may help the noise to go away.
My MK5 actually had an annoying rattle where the black metal wraps around the door in the B-pillar area which wasn't sitting even. Got it fixed under warranty, but sounds like a similar noise.
I think what you're talking about is exactly the problem when I first took delivery of my car. It's a clicking noise from either or in my case BOTH B pillars. It would 'click' when the car was both moving and also when driving along.
The dealer insulated (not sure exactly what) the outside black shiny plastic panels on the B pillar part of each front door. That is, they took the black plastic off, stuck some insulating tape between the metal part of the door and the black plastic piece. The noise disappeared and has never returned.
I believe was/is a common problem and a dealer should know about it. I'm actually surprised that VW hasn't fixed this at the factory - as it's a very simple fix to a very annoying problem.
Hope this helps!
I think my black plastic trim on the door also gives out an occasional rattle. It's definitely different from the clicking sounds but I may get that looked at during the service too. Hopefully they will put some insulation on it and fix both problems!
I should read through posts more before I post mine =)
I know this thread is from a few months ago, but this is exactly the same as my issue, only it's just on the driver's side, and it's a GTI (assume it makes no diff). Mind you, mine is more of a creaking sound rather than a clicking sound. I wouldn't call it a click at all actually.
Pushing in on the black plastic of the b pillar (anywhere on it actually, not just the top as you mentioned vwsp) makes it creak, like squeaky floors. Even opening/closing the door and it creaks. Also creaks as I drive, particularly when I turn.
Should I mention this felt solution to my dealer? Wonder if they know the cause of the issue a little better now.
Better to have the fix than the problem. Coreying is it possible to have a fixed sticky in Mk6 section so all problems that have found a solution can be searched in their first.

Ya I think that would be really helpful actually. Mind you that could end up being a VERY long thread...haha.
I'm also wondering if that Krytox product would work for me. My only other question would be how do I get the b pillar off, and is that something that I want to do? Most likely not, but getting the car to the dealer is such a pain for me. Been there enough times in the last couple weeks. Wondering if I can get the panel beaters to take a look at it when I get my rear bumper fixed. Worth asking them. They're right next to my dealer!
It's not practical to sticky every fix thread, as you'd have 100 threads at the top of the page all stickied, and then only 20 'regular' threads below that. A good idea might be a MK6 Forum index thread... but there are already 40 pages of threads to index :/
ya understood...would be a pain to sift through all the existing posts trying to sort out the correct answers. Threads always tend to stray off topic too =)

The B pillar trim is held on by 3 torx screws that live under the window seal/channel. To remove the B pillar trim on the driver's side door:
1) Wind down the driver's side window.
2) Pull the window seal out (from the aft edge of the window openning only).
3) You should see the 3 torx screws.
4) Carefully remove the screws, being careful not to drop them inside the door.
5) Push the B pillar trim aft. You need to push the rubber trim at the top of the door up a little to get the top tab of the plastic B pillar trim out.
6) Installation is the reverse.
7) Front door trim goes in pretty easily. Rear door B pillar trim is a bit more of a challenge with the window seal rubber. (You need to have the bottom of the rubber in place before reinstalling the B pillar trim).
If you're not confident about pulling your car apart (or putting it back together afterwards!), then it's probably better to ask your dealer to have a look.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,

So, as I thought, the sound has gone away now. Woke up this morning, drove to work..not one creak from the pillar. Opened the door, no creak. Pressed in on the pillar, no creak. Seems temperature affects it?
Wondering how I'm going to convince the service dept that this creak is happening when they can't hear it. Just hope that they've heard about the issue enough times already and know how to fix it.
