i mistakingly allowed my GF to drive the car the other day (as i was drunk) and she misjudged the first curve in the road and scrapped my detroits along the edge..... about 10 weeks in now.....
amazingly, and i classify this as a miracle and may become religious as a result, there was no damage what so ever.... i heard the scrape and was already crying (so was she actually) but when we stopped the car not a scratch or mark!! praise the lord!!
Rim protectors on your tyres probably did their job! Great invention, that.
Awful to hear those stories. If I actually saw someone carelessly do a hit'n'run I'd probably follow them to get their insurance details. With any luck I'd have a full tank at the time. I've found though that the doors on my car are a bit harder to open in small spaces compared to my last car. The door opens to a narrow width which isn't enough for me to exit, and then the next stop is usually too wide, so I'm often holding it in place while getting in or out.
Some guy actually hit me on the freeway once and wouldn't stop (he merged without looking)... so I just followed him and called the cops while I was doing so. Helped that he was in a white van and I was in an RX-8 at the time
Do I hold the record? I saw someone else said within 5 minutes, but it wasn't a Golf!! 41 hours of ownership, rear ended by a P plater. Replaced the entire rear bumper.

Is there a prize for winning?
The record is much shorter than that. A guy that used to work with my dad hit a car when turning onto the street from the driveway of the dealer upon picking up the car.

Thought I'd share a similar story. My ex-boss's brand spanking new Honda Accord Euro. The salesperson took the car out back to install the plates and have it cleaned, pulling out of the spot it was in, he rear ended the bumper into another NEW vehicle. They replaced the bumper after a week. Heart wrenching.

The GTI is my first brand new car purchased, can't believe how anally paranoid I was (still am after 7weeks). Here are some embarassing habits I got into; going around looking for the widest bay or emptiest area of the car park and parking as far from the crowd as possible. As if this wasn't enough, I started memorizing the number plates of the cars parked next to mine!
I find parking next to more expensive/newer cars helps ease my mind . If s*** happens, someone else is gonna hurt more than me
Yea kerbs are a b**** esp for the detroits.
Welcome to my world! I even get to work really early so I get a good park with no one next to me. My obsession drives my wife and friends to frustration. You know when i think about it, what really _isses me off when small accidents occur in car parks or similar is that people have such a disregard for other peoples property that they say and do nothing. If i ever damaged some ones car in a car park, I would leave my card and commit to repairing it for them. If people choose to drive _hit box's thats ok, but respect other peoples property. I will get off my soap box now and head back to therapy!

100% agree with everything you've said! Damn, maybe I need therapy too then!
