Having owned both of these, its a tough call.

Quattro is great, the A3 is much less "sporty" in the ride, great for longer, comfortable trips. The new GTI feels "Sharp" everywhere.

The A3 is a little dated, but most importantly - The A3 has the worse cupholders on the planet - go with the GTI, your coffee will be safe.

2012 is a year long. IT could quite easily be released late in 2012 which is more than 2.5yrs away.

You would think there is no way the A3 can hang on that long (how long has it been around already?)

2003 for the 3dr, 2004 for the 5 dr sportback - though Australia may have been the following years.

2003 is also the same year of the release of the MKV Golf.......

            Went with the Audi!

The Golf blew me away when i test drove it. That blat from the pipes on upshifts - wow! Very cool car to drive. Handling was great - that wizardry that limits front wheelspin really works.

But the wheels did still spin. I couldn't help but think how much worse it would get after APR stage 1.

Then I sat down in the Audi. One word - sublime! Build quality and ergonomic design taken to the next level, IMHO. And the model is 4-5 years old!

Plus the impressive list of options this one had - leather, premium bluetooth, parking sensors, tint, boot inlay, and a REALLY COOL 3-spoke steering wheel with the bottom cut off.

And then there's the Quattro. No worries about the APR tune causing any wheelspin (maybe Stage 3 hey Guy?!).

Oh well, ciao, over to the Audi forum for me!

            Fairways and greens...
