  • MkVI Gti or A3 Sportback 2.0TFSi Quattro??

    What should i do...

A3 Sportback 2.0TFSi Leather and Bluetooth for $54000...

    0r...

MkVI Gti 5door for $43600 (no extras - bogstandard)...

Btw, these are Corporate lease quotes (before anyone starts calling me a liar!).

Basically, Audi is giving me a $7000 discount, over $2500 from VW.

A3 looks very tempting to me, especially considering it will develop 9Nm more torque after APR Stage 1 software is applied (yes, the old 2.0T benefits more from APR tune than the new 155kW version)!!!

Oh my, another very useful thread.

What are YOUR needs. What do YOU and your family prefer?
    That's what's important.

Having said that, the Audi seems like a lot - but then Audi's are always over priced, hence why their dealers are so willing to discount

Thought about an Audi 2.0TSI Quattro with S-Line pack mainly for the AWD. XDS on the Mark 6 GTI bridges the gap between FWD and AWD. The drive is different with XDS and grip levels & refinement have notably improved with use of ESC technology. Audi style a bit conservative with some brand snobbery. Furthermore, the new Audi is due out in 2nd half of 2011 in Europe; The GTI has just been recently released and will be good for at least 3.5 years as a current model.

IMO, the GTI is more of a drivers car, and the Quattro is a bit more conservative but the AWD would be ok.

Hard choice, with an APR tune the Quattro could be pretty good and nicer quality.

I agree your call, hard for us to decide but they are both good and similar.

the mk6 being the newer shape could last you longer with better resale and cheaper servicing/options/parts etc.

It's not clear to me that the Audi is a quattro. At that price, I'd hope so. With Audis, it is all about the spec you get (including options) for the price. Some dealers spec cars quite highly, to hold on the floor and these are always great buys, relative to the pre-order and delay you might have with a GTI.

I think you'll enjoy either car, so it's going to be a value/taste decision

Tough choice, but I'd pick the GTI. IMO it's just a bit more special.

However, there is no wrong decision here.

The fact that the new A3 is due soon turned me off throwing all that money into an A3! That why I went with the GTI.. its just come out and well the cabin tech and quality is pretty damn good

                Isn't the Audi DSG only?

Um, not at all mate. The MK6 Golf was a 'refresh' to reign in the excessive build times and therefore very low margin of the MKV Golf. The MK7 Golf is also due in 2011. The Golf and Audi A3 use the same platform, so they'll both be due around the same time. The Golf MK7 is expected to grow in all dimensions.

Wow, if that's the only reason, I hope you knew the MK7 is due around the same time

Haha the MK7 im pretty sure is due 2012 here anyway. Either way, the interior and cabin tech is much more refreshed and current in the GTI than the Audi in my opinion. I doubt they would release the A3 and the Golf at the same time? wouldnt really make sense

A3 2.0 TFSI comes in Quattro and FWD. The A3 is due for replacement in late 2011 and the MK6 Golf in 2012.

The Mk6 Golf DOES NOT have 3.5 yrs in it .... MK7 Golf and A3 will use the same architecture again just like the MK5/MK6 and current A3.

A3 Quattro is a better bet than the GTI but not sure if it is $10K+ better .....

But it would still be my pick (A3 Quattro that is) .... even in stock mode its better (even if only barely) and once modded its WAY better ....

The short life span of the MK6 is 1 of the reasons I'm wary of buying a R atm.

Yeah - but by that same logic, the new A3 won't be due in Australia until 2012 either!

And yes, as I and Sharkie have said, the Golf and A3 are the same platform, so both companies will likely tool up their production lines at the same or very similar times. Neither would likely want the other to get too much of a head start on sales

Yes 2012 for mk7 is what i thought! Thanks for that Sharkie. The R is a worry. I mean how stupid to release the R this late in the piece and then bring out a completely new car 1.5 yrs later??? Why release it at all?? May aswell have left it with an updated R32 or something.

Unless they leave the Mk7 release to 2013.. which would make much more sense!! But thats just me.

Either way i cant wait to get my mk6 GTI!!
