Ah that sweet smell of diesel! Even if the car ran fast, smooth and quiet you would always remember your in a diesel just by the smell coming the floor mats or your hands after filling up. I don't get the whole GT diesel thing but then again I'm not a fan of diesels in general.

Have you had a drive in a Golf GT TDI? They're damn good fun, the in-gear acceleration is insane!Originally posted by Tux View PostAh that sweet smell of diesel! As the economies take off again in Asia the price of diesel will once again rise faster than petrol in this country. Wheels of industry run on diesel and you be competing for a limited resource.
Diesel's popularity in Europe is partly caused by tax breaks afforded diesel fuel. That doesn't exist here.

I drove the gt tdi and loved it- however looking at the numbers (and I could well be wrong) the engine is the same in the GTD as in the gt tdi? 125kw & 350nm 0-100 8.2Originally posted by Lima View PostWell, tbh Tux, I'd pick the GTI every day as well. But the GT TDI I drove a while back was a very nice surprise. I can only imagine the GTD will be that little bit better again.
wouldn't that say it is essentially an updated gt tdi (all be it in the mk vi body with higher equipment levels)??Current - MY16 2015 Octavia VRS Wagon 220 tsi DSG Corrida Red, tech, Leather, 18" black
SOLD - 2008 United Grey GT Sport TSI DSG

They do... LCT is reduced for cars that fall under 7L/100kmOriginally posted by Zeke View PostAnd that's the Issue. If we were serious about the Green thing there would be tax breaks in Australia for Diesels and and for that matter any car with a combined L/K of under 6.
"Green thing"? Who said diesel cars are good for the environment? People buy them now for three reasons
1. The LCT law means that you can buy a luxo type car cheaper if its a diesel compared to the petrol equivalent model.
2. They use less fuel... some people seem to take a facination with the idea of getting 800km to a tank
3. Becuase they use less fuel people think it saves them money in the long run. Even though numerous reports have suggested otherwise.Last edited by pologti18t; 16-02-2010, 09:14 AM.

ABT tuning of GTD here
20 more HP and 40 Nm does not seem like there is much capability for the upgrade. would a sports or upgraded DPF change this much? Am I vaguely correct in thinking a DPF is similar to the CAT in a petrol car?Last edited by noone; 16-02-2010, 09:49 AM.

Wait for the customcode DPF delete for the GTD and watch the power figures rise .Originally posted by noone View PostABT tuning of GTD here

Milltek to a DPF delete pipe and Custom Code and Revo have or are working on software to suit.
Good for 160-170kw and I think 460nm

Why does every thread about GTI GTD or whatever descend into a "How tunable is it?" discussion.
Maybe some people (the majority of buyers) dont want to chip the car at all and just drive it as intended.currrently... MY10 GTI | DSG | Candy White | Sunroof | 18's | BT | MDI
previously... MY08 GT TDI | DSG | Reflex Silver | Sunroof

So true.. Im all for driving the car to the spec its designed. But reading the posts in these forums makes me think a gti is only a GTI once youve chipped it! lolOriginally posted by steve_tdi View PostWhy does every thread about GTI GTD or whatever descend into a "How tunable is it?" discussion.
