    • Well, I couldn't find another thread to talk about my first two weeks with a GTD, so I guess it's time to resurrect this one. Two weeks, two fills, roughly 1600km.

I've been trying to follow the running in advice I found somewhere here, which included minimum 2500rpm gear changes when cold, 3000rpm when warm. The DSG in Auto mode changes up way before these shift points, and Sport mode seems to hang on a little more than I like, so I've been using manual mode for most of my driving.

I have noticed that the manual change from 1-2 (either using the gear lever or the paddle) delays more than subsequent changes; I need to "anticipate" the shift point, and trigger the change a few hundred rpm lower.

I have to think about which way to push the gear lever when I'm using it for manual changes. My instinct is to push it the other way, which has meant a few missed gear changes - c'est la vie.

I like the engine note on acceleration. I don't know how much effort the engineers put into tuning the sound, but I think it's great. Subtle, not intrusive, but a hint of sport.

The torque is awesome. Slotting into gaps in traffic is so easy. Having fun in the hills, in manual mode, I can simply leave it in 3rd or 4th, and let the torque do all the work. And still get great fuel economy.

It may have a 5000rpm redline, it may be a "tractor", it may not keep up with a GTI, but I like it. I look forward to going to work these days.

Nice purchase! The only reason I got a GTI over a GTD is due to the fact, my wife's/family car is an Peugeot HDi.

Love the big torque of that wagon....

Next car, your GTD engine in a Skoda vRS Wagon.....

Hehe - I love all those things about my car as well (since I APR'd it)

Congrats on the upgrade - hope to see some pics

            • Well I took both the GTI & the GTD out to see which one I would get and the GTD won hands down , so i bought a tornado red with DSG/ACC/PARK ASSIST/DYNAUDIO as this is what they had in Australia at the present moment.
After one week in the GTD I just cant get the grin off my face the car is unbelievable and there is just so much gear in it that you would have to pay a lot extra for in other cars this is one happy GTD Driver it sure beats driving my Defender.
Will leave more feedback after a few weeks.

                  • my order is in for a Gtd cw, dsg, sat nat, sunroof and tinting, drove both GTI and gtd and whilst the GTI was thrilling, loved the performance/torque and undiesel like rorty growl of the gtd- couldn't ignore the economy either partic as i do rural k's(was initially looking at a Tiguans but got sidetracked by the R/GTI/GTD

Dealer says 5-6 months to fill my order- is this realistic? also how are people finding their Gtd 6-12mths down the track.

                    • Yeah 5-6 is a common occurance. Was for me.

I've had the MK5 GT Sport TDI for 4 years and it's as good as the day I got it.

It will benefit from an EGR clean at 100,000km but that's a while off.

BP diesel only if you can, Caltex Vortex of Shell if you can't.

                        • Hey mate, I've just past 1 year with my CW GTD and still loving it.
I'm on a lease as well but have the option with mine for pretty much any diesel, but after having a try of most diesels out there will now only use Caltex Vortex Diesel, mostly cause BP's Premium Diesel is few and far between and didn't see any difference when I ran it between the two. Wont touch standard Diesel (of any brand) if I can help it car didnt like it so much plus in my experience the Premiums have stuff to help it not smoke so much which helps the DPF, but at the end of the day everyone will have an opinion on Fuels so I recommend having a try of them if you can. I'm just lucky that my two close stations have Premium Diesels.

Yeah 5-6 Months was what I was told too

                          • Hey all,
This my first post in the "GTD" section and thought I would introduce the car. I ordered the car in July 11, it was manufactured in Nov 11 and I received delivery on 20 Jan 12. The car is CSG etc (see signature, lazy typer). I too, run Caltex Vortex and haven't had any issues thus far. I used to own an MY09 103TDi. I tried both BP Ultimate and Vortex, I found no noticeable difference and I drove around 800 highway kms a week for about a year. So I went to Vortex because I have a Caltex on the way to work. (I no longer do 800 kms a week - about 200). Back to the GTD, I read a lot of posts about the R LEDs and decided to order a set from Ozram's contact (thanks again, Ozram). I thought about getting the rear LEDs because it has LEDs on the front and it seemed a little out of balance not to have LEDs on the back. My excuse to the wife anyways, also I told her they come on faster than the bulb ones. I have painted the brake calipers yellow mainly due to the fact I thought they looked a bit plain. I love the ride and feel of the GTD and it's always cool to see another GTD on the road. Here's keeping an eye out for more of "us" on the road...
