I'd probably get the LED's that come standard on GTI overseas (although tinted look a bit better and a lot of people were putting the R32 tails on GTI's..)

But improving the safety on your car (LED brake lights illuminate quicker than halogen globes) is way cool!

The lights look better anyway, lets be honest.

+1. I find it amusing when people criticise others (and call the look "silly") for changing their cars so they're no longer as the manufacturer intended, but then don't hesitate to make wholesale changes (wheels, exhausts - inc visible tips, ride height et al) to their own cars.

Car styling and car modifications are a very personal-taste thing - just look at rim choices as a good example of that. I couldn't care less what others think of the look of my car, as long as I'm happy with it and proud of it. As for the taking parts from other VW models (eg the LED tails, or the Omanyt rims I've fitted from a MkV R32) being labelled as "R envy", I reckon people are reading waaay too much into this. Certain R-line styling queues just really work for me... although not all of them.

I like the idea of making tasteful and subtle changes to the look of my cars in the name of personalisation. I don't want to drive around in a car that looks exactly the same as the next one!

The LED brake lights have nothing to do with the R anyway.

The GTI Adidas has LED's as standard
The entire Golf Range in Europe has the option of LED lights

The only 'R Envy' I can see, is people ordering the darker tinted brake lights and fitting them to their Golfs. Like I said before, if you get the normal tinted LED brake lights, its nothing that is specific to the R at all.

I like it when people get upset when you make a comment about changing their car (which you can do for mmm individuality) into another variant of a car of the same model, i guess i assimilate what you are doing to those people who buy a bog stock commode or falcon then try and turn it into a HSV?? I just want one... LMFAO!!!

I must say that I find all this 'envy' talk rather amusing.... I am getting the 'R LEDs' fitted to my new GTI, but I am also possibly getting the 18" Vancouver wheels that are an option on the GTD. So does this mean I am envious of both the R and GTD? No! It means that I appreciated the sutle difference of those two models.... In the end AdamD is right, we all like to make little differences to our cars, which in the end, makes us happy and that is all that matters...

Furthemore, there has been a lot of talk on these forums about tuning cars to make them as fast as say a WRX (for example).... So why not just buy a WRX??? Answer: Because they are not as refined as a R or GTI... So making slight changes that make you happy is what it is all about.

What he said. Each to their own.there will always be the detractors who don't like individuality (or can't afford to change their own car / like to stir on forums more likely). As to trying to make the Gti an 'R", no offense, but I for one don't hanker for a Golf R as nice as I'm sure it is (I've got my Passat R thanks) so changing the lights is purely cosmetic and purely personal you don't have to like it but then I don't have to like a standard Golf either.

I'm currently trying to communicate with a seller in Germany for the correct UK spec lights for Australia. The inner left & right part numbers are different to the rest of Europe. The parts needed for Australia with the fog light on the right are

5K0945093Q (Inner Light Left)
5K0945094Q (Inner Light Right)
5K0945095L (Outer Light)
5K0945096L (Outer Light)

Adapter cables are also needed as the R lights have a different connector to standard Golfs.

Coding with Vagcom will also be required. AFAIK the Kufatec box is only for LHD or European spec.

Hey guys, Can you confirm if these part numbers are the Cherry Red (Golf R) or Light Red (Normal Golf) LED Lights, to go against the trend, I was actually trying to get normal LED lights and leave the Cherry LED's for the Golf R Owners.

Some people are Ebay are now offering the RHD (Aussie compatable) LED lights:

You're correct ref the part numbers for the darker-tinted Golf R tails. I can't confirm the part numbers of the lighter shade tails personally, as I don't recall seeing a post that explicitly covers them (RHD, reversing light on the left, rear fog on the right).
