It looks like they're just standard halogen bulbs, so it should be just a matter of swapping the bulbs over, right?

Bulbs, reflectors, switches/wiring... not an easy job. I don't know of anyone who's done it. Just buy the RHD set, or leave them switched and get an auto-electrician to switch the wires. (That's technically not a legal solution, but I doubt anyone would notice.)

Fair enough. I found a set of LHD Hellas (confirmed by looking up the Hella part numbers, which also gave the VW part numbers, which were for a pair of LHD Dark Cherries w/ fog lights) on eBay. With the 15% off ebay code, it would have been ~$500 shipped, which is super cheap.

Oh wells. Still, cheapest I can find is at Bold-Sport, ~$700 shipped.

I've been contemplating this too. Think the OEMs are too expensive for what it is, but can't bring myself to buy cheaper reps.

However, decided I will go OEM through Bold Sport. Based on current pricing and fx rates, shipped to Melbourne they work out to AUD$808. The Depo reps on eBay work out to $582. So for $226 more, you get an OEM product. Not $100 more like some casually say, but still not that much more considering the benefits of an OEM product over Reps.

Has anyone contacted the German VW dealer that a bunch of us purchased genuine LEDs from some time back? I paid around $700 for mine a few years back; depending on the exchange rate and other factors he could still be quite price-competitive.

It says no coding required... I wonder how true it is!

I took the plunge over the weekend when ebay had their 15% off and bought these. I just received them at lunch today and finished installing them within 40mins. (Could be quicker but I took my time). I have not gotten any errors and can confirm that all lights inclusive of reverse and rear fog work.

How did you find the overall quality and fitting. Their pics on eBay look like the outter edges don't line up well with the panels?

Yeah it's not too bad. If i were to be extremely pedantic, I'd say fitment on the right light isn't flush between the inner and outer light. But having said that, I don't think you can really notice unless you look at it directly and closely. Apart from that, I'm extremely happy with the lights.

Overall not bad! Do the lights go through an initialisation phase every time you start the car? Seen some vids where on start up one or more the lights are slow to light up.

Not that I've noticed. Although the only way i saw it was in the reflection when i first started it up after the install. I reverse parked at my office where there's glass so that I could see it.

I'll keep an eye out and let you know if i notice any delay into between each light during start up

Hi all, I know this topic has been done to death but I figured I'd put my 2 cents in. I had been eyeing off installing R Line LED tail lights for ages, however this week I took the plunge and ordered a set from Euro Car Upgrades (JKU.com.au) as they stocked genuine OEM retrofit parts. I was really pleased with the customer service, the expedient shipping (QLD to NSW) and fast installation and coding service offered.

Just wanted to share my results with everyone, I am really happy with how it turned out

There's no initialisation for the LEDs - they're off, or they're on (although they still fade out in steps when you enable Coming Home lights). What you may have seen on videos is the 'LED effect', where the frequency and timing of the LEDs doesn't match up with the frame rate of the camera filming them, and they appear to be not illuminated, or to flicker.

I think what he is seeing is as a result of the "improper" cecm or coding. My jetta does the same with oem led tails which my cecm does not officially support. It flickers like this when the ignition switch is turned regardless of whether the headlight switch is in the off position or otherwise.

I've never heard of that or seen it with the Golf. It sounds seriously not good if it's true.

Sounds worse than it is I guess. It flickers through all the different bulbs of the braking portion of the tails then it stops. Takes all of 2 seconds approx. will post video if you haven't seen it before.
