$250 for installation is a LOT! There's heaps of DIYs out there and its not a hard job. Also don't need many tools etc.
Agree. It's a 30min swap over job. Only thing really is the re-coding required.
But if your not mech minded DIYer then $250 for install, code and testing will give you peace of mind.
I do like the end result. The LED lights sure make a difference.

I paid $162 for install and recoding in Sutherland, Sydney. I did it mainly for peace of mind and also didn't have the ability to recode. Took about 1 hour all up. Very happy with result. I agree in hindsight, it is an easy install but at the time, I had no idea how to do it.

I have a mk6 Jetta and recently installed OEM LED tails. I know they aren't the same car but the mk6 Jetta and Golf share alot of parts underneath. This is my CECM with fault code after installation:

Do you guys have similar models of CECM? I'm thinking of trying the byte 18 set to 15. Do you think this might be bad?
Your control module is completely different to that in the Golf, so all bets are off. I'd be contacting Ross-tech for advice if I were you.
Ok I will do that but I am itching to try various codes in byte 18.
If I know that my default byte 18 value is 8C can I try other values and just go back to 8C if the other values cause trouble? Can any values in byte 18 damage the cecm preventing me from going back to 8C?

Damage is pretty unlikely; the risk is low, but there is always some risk. I'm not about to tell you that you should do it, but if it was me I would probably try a few of the more likely values myself.
Changes in coding to byte 18 that can't be easily reverted have been documented, but the only case I know of with that is when the original coding was 00, and in order to go back to a factory coding there was a need to code to another particular value first, and then revert to 00. And I don't know how much of all that was down to actual understanding of the system, and how much was down to guesswork and observation. (I know that one of the coding boxes that one of the online retailers sold along with LED tail lights did this.)
