  • Just make sure you get RHD. The reverse light should be on the left and the rear fog on the right. Otherwise they will not be ADR legal.

Is anyone yet to experience a blown LED on their taillights? That's what worries me about the cheaper ones tbh.

        • Ordered my LED tails through Ozram's contact (thanks Ozram!) and they arrived in 6 days. Pretty quick delivery time .. including shipping I paid $606.

            • Hi all

I'm very keen to get the R lights for my 118TSI, build date JAN 09.

I noted somewhere in the early pages of this thread that it said LEDs are not supported pre June 09 however i'm just a little confused...

Referring AdamD's post #270 in this thread....

              Build date: Prior to 2009
              LEDs not supported

Build date: 2009, prior to week 22
              Central Electrics Revision*: 03xx
              Headlights: Halogen or Bi-Xenon
              - Coding (hex): 4
              - Coding (binary): 00000100

Being that mine is Jan 09, i believe it falls in bucket 2...so my question is, has anyone installed the LED tails and coded a Pre June 09 car?(going by above, it looks like it's possible)
Question 2, anyone in Melb willing to complete the coding for me?

              Thanks!!!

You may be in luck, and then again you may not.

I'm not aware of anyone who's fitted the LEDs to such an early build car. It all comes down to whether your Central Electrics module supports the LEDs (and the ability to not throw a code when they draw less current than regular incandescent bulbs) or not.

Ozram fitted the LEDs to his old 118TSI; I'm not sure of the build date of his car, but I seem to recall his was a July build and had the 0537/0541 revision. The only reason the coding summary post shows a coding option for cars pre- week 22 2009 is because the documentation I received with my LEDs suggested it, but I can't confirm it'll work - and I have read information on other sites suggesting it won't.

Aside: I'm also not 100% sure of the coding for the 0537/0541 revision... I have it listed as 15, but maybe it's 4. Ozram, can you confirm the coding you settled on for your 118?

                • Thanks AdamD

I do note this from car systems.pl website

For cars made before 2010 - new BCM is required

Excuse my ignorance, but what is BCM and can it be self installed?

BCM is the old name for the Central Electrics Module (CEM); it stands for Body Control Module. CEM is responsible for lights, entertainment, and a whole host of other electronics.

It's a physical controller; I have a feeling it's located underneath the dash up above the pedals on a Mk6. Yes, it is changeable, but I don't know of anyone in Australia who's done it. It wouldn't be cheap I suspect.

                      Oh well!!

Interesting that it says cars prior to 2010 need new bcm however Ozram converted his simply by recoding?!

Yes. You'll see from the coding post that it specifies a Central Electrics revision that's applicable to the coding - that's the piece of information you need, as opposed to the build date. The coding post tells you how to find this (via a VCDS scan), and it's that number that will tell you if we know whether your module can be coded for the tail lights, or whether it's an unknown (early) version.

It's easily changed and requires re-coding based on original module for it to function properly. It's no harder to change than the CAN Gateway.

Yeah, not difficult to access, or code necessarily. But how much to get one?

They're around 200 Euro from CarSystems.

Yeah coding was "4" Adam. My car was June 09 build and I'm sure I read on a UK site that they couldn't get the LED's to work on vehicles built before May of that year. A new CECM from carsystems would definitely allow you to run LED's. I know of people changing them so they can convert to Xenon LED headlights.

VeeDub23, I might know someone who is selling their old CECM which is from a 2011 GTI. It may fit?? I'll enquire for you.
