Bi-Xenon on GTI (Pics + Info)

Hi Guys how are you?

Regarding the Bi-Xenon headlights on the new GTI...
What do they look like, both in daylight and night?

Can you guys post up a few pictures?
Do they change the look of the front headlight panels of the the car, etc/Front profile.

Any other comments regarding the cosmetic changes it makes to the car.

Are they expensive to maintain? Say if a globe blows, etc? (If they do)

They look like bi-xenon headlights

Take a look at the Volkswagen Australian, UK, German or US site as there are plenty of photos out there. They're not much different to the standard headlights just with a projector lense.

Do a google image search for "golf mark vi bi-xenon", it comes back with heaps of high resolution images of the bi-xenons in action.

Bulbs last a long time but if one blows you're looking at between $100 and $250 for a bulb depending on where you source it from.

Personally, I'm not a fan of the xenons up close (the scooped supports underneath the projectors just look odd), although I suspect I'm in the minority here.

Also, the xenons are a different colour (whiter light) to the fog lights and parkers:


If only they had an option for all xenon, or all LED.

Love the black mags on the red Golf!!! I know it's a prsonal thing but I would prefer those on my GTI to the Detroits, the Detroits are just too loud.

I'm sure it'd be relatively simple to swap out the bulbs in the low fog lights.

Well.... fog lights are always a yellowish light, since they're fog lights

But having said that - it's illegal in Australia to drive around with them on, so why would you bother changing them? No one is going to see them on your car anyway.

I got nice DRL on the Xenon's for that.

The life expectancy of Xenons is reportedly slightly less than standard bulbs.
With normal usage patterns Xenons are supposed to last up to 10 years before replacement is required.

H7 standard bulbs last for 330 hours (b3) and 550 hours (tc)
H7 long life bulbs last for 450 hours (b3) and 930 hours (tc)
H7 +80/90 bulbs like the nightbreaker last for 100 hours (b3) and 200 hours (tc)

Osram D2S Xenon bulbs have a life of 2000 hours (b3) and 3000 hours (tc)
(these are fitted oem to Volkswagens)

No, that's the parking light.

There is a picture around showing the DRL on Xenon's. I tried to find it earlier but couldn't.

what little light under the protector beam? (I'm sure you're just seeing a reflection).

I'm actually sure that the DRL light for the Xenon is the 'high beam light' on an alternative beam mode. So that would be the two lights closer to the central grill - the same position as the standard DRL lights.

apparently comes on with the main beam. So the DRL is the main beam.

Yeah - I never realised that light was there!

So what's the point of it? Seems superficial since the DRL is the main beam!
