No doubt they are good, I just think they should be standard or at least a cheaper option. In the US, they are $700 option which is a no brainer. But $2000 buys an APR tune and tint/intake. Decisions...

Xenon's are still perceived as a luxury item rather than a standard feature/safety item in Australia. My comments earlier about then being a sought after option stand - particularly in Sydney where people want to be seen with them. Sydney is a wank.. but that doesn't bother me. I think Xenon's look better so I'd option them for that reason alone. I never drive on country roads. To each their own I suppose and I guess that's one good reason for them to remain optional rather than standard. Not everyone will see the benefit, aesthetically or functionally.2019 BMW M3 CS

I ordered the GTI towards the end of Nov, and them i added Satnav just before christmas for a car that was a Dec Build. They wont budge with price.. trust me i tried! I should have got a $300 discount with dynaudio/satnav but he didnt budge.
So you should be fine. Just dont expect any discount. Goodluck!2010 5 DR MK6 GTI|DSG|CARBON STEEL|18" DETROIT|ACC|BI-XENON|LEATHER|SUNROOF|DYNAUDIO|SATNAV|MDI|PREMIUM BT|TINTS|EXTENDED WARRANTY| In garage

I had the same situation when I added the Detroit's after I had already signed the contract... Managed to get a token discount, but will lose your barganing power...
I don't know if you'll drop back to the end of the line as it would just be amending an order, I don't see why they'd need to cancel and re-order... but best check with your dealer on these specifics.Golf Mk6 GTI | Deep Black Pearl | 6MT | 5dr | 18" Detroits |

If someone wants to get xenons just to say "look at me" then I dare they might have a few other issues to deal with.
Sure, xenons may not be "needed", but neither are things like power steering, power windows, airbags, ABS, turbo engines, alloy wheels and any number of things that our cars have.
None of that changes the simple fact that xenons are better than halogen headlights. Just like power steering is better, power windows are better, and so on. The difference being, of course, having better forward vision on the road has other obvious benefits. Might not "need" them, but doesn't make them a wank.
And, just to get you going a bit more, you must love these...

I'd love the R, but the GTI is already at my limit at the moment due to buying a house in the next couple of months. I agree G-rig, too many options won't be recouped in the long run. May just have to give the dealer a ring and see what figure I get quoted. If it means waiting longer then it's a definate no.

If you do a lot of highway at night then go for it! Dont try and talk the rest of us into "needing" them for round town, cause its a w@nk.
It's the aftermarket people that buy the incorrectly fitted, wrong temperature HID's that has sullied the xenon functionality somewhat. Factory fitted xenons on the other hand only improve the safety of your vehicle. And as a side benefit provide the car with a much "cleaner" look at night due to the whiter lights.
VW could do better at offering it as a standard feature like the Subaru. But its still in that phase in its product lifecycle where you have to pay for the "luxury". e.g. 118TSI does not even have an option for them, so I found out recently!!!
Personally, one of my criteria for my new car was xenon lights. And now that I have had them, will not go back to normal halogens. Your personal opinion generalising others with xenons sounds like sour grapes to me. If you don't have them then don't complain about other people who want to put them on as an option.
Better asking now than after delivery of the car when retro fitting them will cost much more $$$. Better yet see if you can tee off a drive in a Golf with xenons so you can make up your own mind about it.
