  • Heh... seems the Chinese don't really understand the concept of "Bi-Xenon". They're not Bi-Xenon's if they need a separate light for high beam...
The turning signal looks weird being in the middle too.

If you're going to ignore the laws and fit some Xenon's, why not just get the same contact that everyone gets the MK6 LED tailights from to get you a real set of MK6 Bi-Xenon lights?

    • They cant be Bi-xenon as they are designed to be a simple plug and play of the existing halogen setup.
I went down this path because,
      A) these are built so they are straight swap of your halogens. No coding...no adapters etc.
      B) These are over half the price of buying the OEM set. (and you still have to buy additional parts like adapters and I think bulbs etc if you buy the OEM set)

I dont think they look weird (each to their own) but I think they look darn close to OEM, compared to some of the other aftermaket unitsout there.

      • They look pretty good, Spydar. Keep us posted with your progress.

What's LHD - RHD? Left hand drive - Right hand drive? What are the differences? Pardon my noob-ness.

Yep, Right Hand Drive. Basically, for RHD cars the light cut off drops down on the right side as not to dazzle on-coming cars. Opposite for LHD. So if you were to buy a LHD headlamp from Europe or America you would be pissing off alot of on-coming cars because the cut off would be on the wrong side.
To Corey's point, yeah these units are technically not road worthy because you have to have auto-levelling and washers, for xenon equipped cars but I am justifying it by:
          - the manual levelling still works so do it yourself if the light is a bit high
          - these are projector units. So it’s not like putting a cheap xenon bulb bought on eBay in a halogen reflector housing and having the light scatter everywhere
          - My car is never dirty...so I shouldn’t have the problem of dirt on my headlamps.
          - as I said they are around half the price of the OEM set...so you can always invest the savings into buying the Auto-levelling and washers if you want. Which makes retrofitting xenon’s a more economical option if you are now kicking yourself for not ticking it on the option box. But when I bought my car, the xenon option didn’t have the cool LED drl they have now.

Thats something I am investigating Smok3y, (group buy). Want to wait first to see my set and make sure they are as good as what the yanks have got, but also make sure they have been made properly for RHD. They have never made them for RHD before.

                  • Hi All,

When changing the bulbs over to aftermarket what does everyone suggest?

                    I was having a look on ebay and have spoken to a seller and he is selling two different types one is;

OSRAM NIGHT BREAKER H1 pair 90%brighter NIGHTBREAKER | eBay

                    which are H1

                    and

OSRAM NIGHT BREAKER H7 pair 90%brighter NIGHTBREAKER | eBay

                    which are H7

obviously there are two sets of bulbs in the light unit (yes there is actually 4 bulbs if you include the DRL and the indicator).

As I am not completely up to speed with all things cars what have others done?

                    • I'm assuming you're referring to changing the stock halogen ones with different halogens right? (coz we were on the topic of HIDs for a moment)

If halogen, I'd like to know too! Changing to HIDs might be a big hassle but I might look into getting some white'ish halogen bulbs. I know it won't be as bright/good as HIDs, but it's the "easier/cheaper" option I guess.

I heard Sylvania Silverstars are pretty good. The bulb temp is 4000k, I think. So it's not as yellow as normal halogens. Or the Philips ones where you can get 5000k bulbs.

Anyone had any experiences with either ones?

You are correct I was talking about just changing the halogen bulbs out at this stage.

Thanks Frozze for clearing that up

i'm currently using Phillips Xtreme Power, but i think this model has been phased out with a new one, the Phillips Xtreme Vision.

I've used Osram nighbreaker, but found the Phillips Xtreme Power to be brighter.

NEW Philips X-treme Vision H7 from Power Bulbs | Free Worldwide Delivery

I have also tried different bulbs in the past (PIAA, Raybright, Catz, 90w halogen, 110w halogen, blue tinted, yellow tinted, rainbow tinted, etc... my parents own car spare parts shop overseas!)

I'd avoid heavily blue tinted halogen bulbs, ie: those rated at 4000k and above, because the light output is really degraded and hence less visibility on the dark country / national park roads. I'm not concerned with how my light colour look, but to look is much more important for me. Blue tinted halogen bulbs do look 'cool' and xenon light colour lookalike, BUT you see less on the road.

IMO, the Phillips Xtreme Power is a big improvement over the stock bulbs.

Retrofitting HID bulbs into halogen designed headlight is just very wrong for me and it should not be done on a Golf GTI (with Civic, Yaris, Jazz... don't really care about them), well at least with headlight housing replacement is the lesser of the two evil (you don't blind oncoming drivers if you do it right).

                            • to me if you put HIDs in a relector (lots do it...) your a moron. i will put them in the Highbeam relector but thats it. to me you need at minimum Projector headlights to run HIDs i know there are stilll legallities with this setup but its the best of a bad thing lol. i was pissed that i could not upgrade to BiXenon on the little 90tsi but thats what happens when ya buy cheaper lol all i want it is a good Projector headlight for my golf so i can run (illegally) 5000k HIDs, as reflectors are such a dissapointment in a golf. to be honest its about the only shortfall i find with the golf
