Agree - 5 doors are for real estate agents (trust me, I used to be married to one!) 3 doors are for the young and young at heart (like myself). Now I'm single again and the kids have all left home (finally), why would you want 5 doors. Same if your 20 ish with no immediate plans for family etc. Enjoy it while you can I say and worry about the family if it happens. GET THE 3 DOOR
Sounds like the 3dr's are the mid life crisis symptomn amongst VW enthusiasts
Its not a MK1/2, golfs stopped looking good in 3 doors in the MK3...

Not a mid life crisis, Houso, a late life one! I bought my first VW a month ago, what a great car (in the TSI) but it still looks like a shopping trolley, as for most 5 door hatches. Get away from the herd mentality and enjoy yourself pre family, cause after that you have 25 - 30 years of compromise before you can have what YOU want. Every man is entitled to his 2 door sports car before he commits to drudgery and the main stream psyche
Current drive:2016 Golf GTI 40 Years in Pure White

Lol, these threads are stupid and should immediately be closed by the moderators.
Maybe I should start a thread in the MK6 forum about whether 'Wrong Turn' or 'Darkness Falls' is the worse horror movie. That'd be about as useful as this thread
But for what it's worth... 3 door all the way.
If you need the 'so-called practicality' which comes from a 5 door Golf, but want the performance of a GTI, then buy a Skoda Octavia RS Wagon! The only real GTI is a 3 door
Saw a red 3 dr Mk6 with the 18's thru the week and it looked awesome. And im not normally a fan of red cars but the combination of both really suited the car.
Personally id love to get one, but the convenience of 5 doors won me over. I test drove a 3 dr pirelli last year and did a lot of thinking about whetere or not i could live with it.

LOL agreed, but they're still entertaining.
People asking questions on ACC or some other option because they can't afford both is one thing but I'll never understand 3/5dr or which colour. Its unquestionably personal taste/requirements.
How many doors? Well how many do you need? I've had a sedan for years and could count on 1 hand the amount of times I had rear passengers.
I am biased, driving a 3 door GTi, and my kids have grown up and gone but definitely 3 doors. Now, if VWA could bring the roof line down a bit and put the name of a different wind on the back of it, I'd be even happier.

But then it'd be an A3/S3. And then I and many others wouldn't buy it, cause their mates can't sit in the back (when needed) without ducking their heads etc. I'm only 5'10" and even I hit my head (when I lean forward) in the back seat of an S3 with the sunroof.
Oh, and there's also the Scirocco... but I guess we don't get that (yet)

That's what the wife's 118TSI is for. Or the Bedford. You can fit 14 in that (off road, of course)
