Based on the Oct 2009 price list I got from my dealer the 18" Visions are 602.10 each. I ordered my car with the std 17" and will probably swap with the 17" Visions at around $510 each (if I don't see anything better in the meantime).

They look more aftermarket than OEM IMO.

& aftermarket as in wheels you would see on a dropped Civic with a body kit. I like the 18 detroits much better.

          vision wheels

I was hoping to factory upgrade to visions. If I'm willing to wait, is that not possible at a cheaper price than doing it dealer fitted, since they are 18s like the detroits (therefore not too much more than 1.3k?). Or are they a more expensive wheel? Love how the black in them will look good on a white GTI!

Any OEM wheel fitted during build will be cheaper then having it done in Aus. No need to wait just make it part of your order if thats what you're after.

I don't believe that the vision wheels are a factory option. There is an entire range of dealer fit accessories which the factory just can't put on for you!

Even if the wheel is in the GTI brochure? It is under the VW Genuine Accessories section but so is the MDI and that can be ordered with the car. 18 Inch Visions would be too expensive to be viable if factory fitted after purchase. It would make the Detroit upgrade a bargain...

'Accessories' mean dealer fit. 'Options' mean factory fit. The MDI can be both factory (option) or dealer (accessory) fit, although the installation location is different - factory in centre console, dealer in glove box.

                  Hope that helps

Thanks for that. So say i ordered the Golf with the standard 17s and I asked the dealer to dealer fit 18inch visions on it before delivery, will they minus the cost of the 17s when paying for it or will I have an extra set of 17s and would therefore have to sell them after delivery?

I'd say that will only happen if you ordered the car with the Vision's.

What will the dealer do with left over 17" standard GTI wheels?

Yeah i agree but have seen the 18"charleston's (from a Jetta) on a GTI which look pretty good.

18" Detroits look much better than the 17" version and suit the car.

Those new wheel styles with black on alternate spokes etc look a bit nasty and cheap.

They could sell them, not sure what else they'd do

Would still be better if the money came off the other accessories/post factory upgrades instead of selling them second hand, although it's pretty easy to sell wheels and/or tyres that are in good condition.

                          Visions

I tried to order the Visions or any other wheel apart from Detroit in the 18" format in my factory order, however every dealer I spoke with said it was not possible, OEM wheels are a dealer fitted option only, which is a real shame. Best deal I could get was $2000 changeover for the 18" Detroits for 18" Visions. The Vision rims are listed at around $650 ea so its not much of a deal and I may try and sell the 18" Detroits privately should I go ahead and make the switch. I'll see what it looks like when it arrives, so far nearly all the Mk VI GTI's I have see on the road have 17" rims fitted which make the car look so lame.

I've even looked on UK sites to see if there is anything else interesting around, the US website mentioned in previous threads looks the most likely at this stage.

I would just sell the 17" denvers plus tyres while they are fairly new and get some 18" Huff replicas. You can usually get $1000 for the stock wheels and tyres which would go towards the new ones.

Buying OEM from the dealer doesn't work out financially but would be nice to order the Detroits from the factory if possible.

$2k change over for the 18" or 17" if that's the price with 18s their having a laugh aren't they what a rip they'd onsell the 18s as new to someone else for that much so the Visions would have made them over $4k.

Yeah I have stock 17s as I took from the lot and I haven't seen many mk6s out and about so can't comment. There are a few pics on mk6.com from the US some look okay others aren't my cup of tea but it gives some ideas otherwise it's just tireracks garage for a look at different wheels sadly.

I don't think you will get $1000 for the stock 17" wheels - regardless of rubber fitted. (I personally think they're worth that and more but I don't see it happening)

18" Detroit's are a $1200 option when buying the car and I imagine some of those will come up for sale. I think getting $1000 for those will be lucky let alone the 17" wheels.
