silly question, but whats the point of the lakin plates? You can still see a black empty plate? yer it might be thinner, but the big black mess is still there? I ended up just going euro's and bolting them straight onto the standard mounts.. I had my original set of personalised plates but I hate the black all together..whether its thin or think? I may be missing something though so dont have a go at me haha.. just curious as to why you guys are spending money on them?nom nom nom

I presume you're talking about the front bracket? Like what AdamD, MIRSAD, langers, and myself have? Because it looks much better than the stock holder, and is the smallest option, whilst using the stock holes, and not having to use "plugs" or have the bumper filled and resprayed. Additionally, they seal the plate and don't allow dirt in and all that.
Since they're completely custom, you can also do what Rob_R did, and have it the exact same size as the plate, but you then either need to use plugs on the stock holes, or have the bumper filled and resprayed.
But it's basically a case of ANYTHING to get rid of this monstrosity:
Most plates don't fit it properly. It's a flat colour grey and doesn't match the gloss black of rest of the front (on the R at least). It also actually hangs below the central intake area and blocks some of the air to the radiator/intercooler (on the R).
Check that out, not only is it really bulky, but it's still curved, so you still have to bend your plate for it to fit, and if you have a cover, then you've got no choice but to have it sticking out on each side like this.

as for plate covers, yeah i might look into those ones
thats pretty cheap! It must have made you sick pulling a brand new painted front bar off and getting it worked on/ re-painted though! haha.. Should have waited til the wife scraped some driveways and gutters first hahanom nom nom
