You should have seen my wifes face as I marched out to the car with a powerdrill. Was priceless.

I remember when I was a teenager, I used to live a few houses away from one of my school teachers (she was regarded as one of the cooler teachers, lol). Anyway... her husband came home with a brand new Jag. Apparently he didn't discuss it with her, because an argument broke out in front of the house, loud enough for my dad to come out to see what was going on... it then went in the house... next thing, she's storming out the front of the house with a big screw driver and a power drill, and starts attacking the car with both... class on Monday was interesting

yeah, they just stopped drilling them because too many idiots were buying them to fit to their Australia/Japanese/Korean cars, lol
Not that it makes any difference for the VW's since they've got not holes drilled either

Finally got around to taking a few pics of the Lakin brackets and covers that were installed on my GTI (full size Euros front + rear). They look quite good, the only negative I've found is that the covers tend to fog up (mostly during cold morning and nights) and stay like that for some time.
Philip sends them out with a seal on the inner side of the covers that adheres to your plates, however he leaves a section of approx 10cm seal-free. I've since resealed both covers entirely and it looks to have pretty much eliminated the problem. Still happens on occasion but clears quicker. I spoke to Philip and he said they do tend to fog up the first few weeks but after a while it just stops.

Right, stupid OEM bracket removed (Luckily not any scuffing on paint) and front Lakin bracket now on perfectly thanks to Corey and Rob_R. That will do for tonight! One more question. On the front Euro Slimline plate Kingpin cover you need to insert two small rubber grommets from the outside to cover the oval hole. Does the hole for the screw go at the top or at the bottom? I am assuming bottom as that is the flat part of the plate?
Thanks again, looking fwd to showing the results...In Carport. R

Well done Rob_R. Really like your color coded scrivet solution. It reduces the visual bulk nicely. Mine will be united grey so color coded scrivets should blend in well, so I think I'll try this before buying the Lakin bracket. Did you use a spray can of touch up paint? Did you paint them before or after fitting them?2012 DSG UG Golf R plus some options. Loving it!
