Best number plate / plate holder style

Yeah Phil was shattered when I sent him the photos... My sales guys (Damon) was realy embarrassed by the stuff up and has assured me that he will get his best guys at the dealership to do it properly this time... But definitely stress to them that you dont want pre delivery to do it for you.. They obviously have muppets there that dont give a rats freckle about our cars!

Phil told me the story too .... & about a Mazda .. I'd have been tempted to hurt somebody!

Delt with a different bloke but yeh sounds like they're a bunch of tards. Gonna ring them today. Might rethink having them fit my DSG paddles, though you had no issues with the LED's right?

You would have spokent to Patrick though, right? Lets you know how the car is travelling whilst in transit... The LEDs were not a problem but from what I have seen on this forum, the paddles look a lot more complicated than the tail lights, so they might f**k them up or charge you to do them...

As for the plates, thinking of euro slimlines front and rear now. Looking at Perry's normal euros on his white R from another thread, they look too big on the car.



vs (can't find vic slimlines, though I think the NSW ones are a bit shorter, but same width?)

I was thinking (again) about finally getting my car & sent Phil an email to ask if he can send me a paper template for the rear bracket. I've fitted 1 set before & the process & accuracy would have been improved if I'd used a template!
So Phil is going to send me one in the next few days ..... tape it in position & drill 'through' the x's to get the alignment spot-on!
Feel free to ask for the same from Phil .... But dont tell him I told you

Anyone know if the dealers also use a template when fitting the rear number plates seeing there are no existing holes present, or do you just have to hope who ever is fitting the plates are good with measurements..

emailed dealer today and asked if they can mount rego plates with two way tape, so i can bring the car home and properly mount my lakin plates and brackets, and she said no!....its against the law.

I had a quick chat with my sales guy today and told him to fix both plates with doubled sided tape so I can sort out brackets/plates later and he had no issues with that. I'll most likely get lazy and forget to do anything about the plates until the tape loosens and they fall off hehe

If you go with the smaller slimline ones, you will just have more black around it which doesn't really reduce the visual size of it.
I'll be sticking with standard size Euro (VIC) plates, and see how they look before i go to Lakin. Just need to decide if i want white on black, or black on white for a Rising Blue R?

I'd go White on Black so the black plate would blend in more with the OEM plate holder and will also match the black diffuser on the rear.

Except the OEM plate holder on the front is nowhere near black... black will just make that holder look even worse than it is!

Damn straight!

The VW OEM Holder is stupid, and quite frankly is the entire reason I've even discovered the Lakin Front Bracket!

On another note, I don't have my R yet, so I can't see, but it looks like using a slim plate on the R allows more air into the lower grill. On the GTI this is not the case, as the top area of the lower grill is actually filled in. Photos of the R seem to show it being open (maybe someone with an R can enlighten us). It's kinda annoying if the stock holder IS blocking airflow. I mean, detune the car for Australia cause it's too hot down here, and then put that stupid holder on there blocking more air! pfft.

I've considered such options but I'd be severely punished by the custodians of the 'nanny' state here in WA so it's just not worth it!

You'd still be left with 4 holes in the front bar which didn't need to be there anyway! Just can't win!

But you know, we only talking about these stupid things because we've gone crazy waiting 6mths for our cars. If I had the car already, number plates would be so far at the back of my mind that they'd come after volunteering to vacumn my neighbours house!

Totally agree... You should see the email traffic between me, Prodigy & the dealer we are getting our R's from!! It's almost cringeworthy...
I've got my plate brackets & covers, all sorts of new 'car care products' & a schedule for 'it's' first few days I've done more planning & fretting than my 1st born..... It's a car ffs!!
