  • Thanks logger.
So with the APR Stage I, the 118TSI is about where the MK6 Golf GTI is at standard, although without the composure that the GTI has doing it.
The old little Polo GTI with Stage I is just a touch quicker than both... that is until you then place the APR Stage I on the MK6 Golf GTI and it then leaves both behind.

The log that you're able to produce is pretty cool... now you just need to borrow someone's Golf GTI to produce the same log and compare hehe

        Nice work, Logger...

One point though - is this log 100% correct? Why is the speed at 400m slower than at 200m?

The first one was a 0 to 100kph run, and then what speed it was doing after 400m.
The next one was a 90 to 120kph rolling run, and then what speed it was doing after 200m.

That still doesn't sound right. Looking at the long table of times vs velocities at the end, I'd surmise that all of the figures are from the same run, but that logger backed off the accelerator a bit before the 300m mark. Extrapolating a bit by eye, I'd expect to see a realistic 400m trap speed in the 140-150 km/h range, probably closer to 150.

And if this log is anywhere near accurate, that's damned impressive performance from the chipped 1.4TSI.

Keep in mind I only have the bog standard skinny tyres too.
So if I'm understanding right, you were testing that on the standard tune by taking your foot of the brake and then immediately flooring it without switching off TC, and there was no axle tramp, no flashing TC light? That surprises me because in my TSI with the stock tune (and SC2S4 recall applied) and sports pack (wider tyres than yours) I've accidentally spun the wheels and had the traction control intervene when taking off in a hurry.

                  • For the record, I will log my TDI the same way, but have a best of 7.5 to 100k and a 15.5 400m using VCDS in the past. Pretty much stock. Also, having test driven all three in MK V manual form back to back, twice or more each over 4 hours, give me a GTI anyday for traffic light derby. Can't comment on DSG.

                      • Brian - please move on. This thread isn't actually about you. You didn't start it, and yes, you didn't claim that the 118TSI was faster than the GTI, others did.

But you did come on and pick a fight which was misguided and directed given that Maverick stated "Plus all the other features of the GTI that help with power delivery and safe handling like".

So lets all just kiss and make up and move long. No more posts about the 118TSI vs GTI. We're all Volkswagen owners and supporters here, so we'll just have faith that Volkswagen know what they're doing, and that they consider the GTI to be better, and that's why it's a higher model and costs more.

Feel free to keep replying, but do it on the topic. 103TDI vs 118TSI.

                        • A SuperMod has come through and done a massive cleanup of this thread.

One of the posts deleted said that the 118TSI has launch control. I thought I'd link to a post from Logger who has discussed this topic and shown that the 7sp DSG does not in fact have launch control. This is just an FYI here. Please don't discuss the topic further in this thread.

                            • Right back on topic, I'm actually glad I got the 103TDI after considering the 118TSI.
The sheer driveability and economy are major plusses (?) for me.

The 'stock' numbers 0-100 etc. for the TDI certainly don't seem to match the 'feel' of the car. Are there any roadtests out there with real world figures?

Well, I like my TDI's for in gear acceleration and basically the same performance when the car is fully loaded , and you can still have a bit of fun and get outstanding fuel economy.
