Looks like it's gone up $500 then for a new car order. Add it to , alarm, park sensors and some good-to-haves and you can really add it up.
For example, the not-unreasonable addition of ipod dock, park sensors, fog lamps, alarm and gps adds up to $4,770.00, which you'll never see again at resale. It's just gravy for the dealers, and whilst i don't deny them a living it's just not worth the money. Add to this the fact that they options offered are silly things like sunroofs and leather trim (in Australia? please!) instead of things that might actually be useful like bixenon headlights and it's all quite depressing.

Makes for some decent value on the second hand market I guess!

Each to their own then. I wouldn't buy a GTI or R without "silly things" like sunroofs and leather trim. I only find it depressing without them

It's $500 cheaper on the GTI as it has an amp installed.

Not everyone is silly enough to fall for icrud's so it's hardly a must have and fog lamps are hardly useful in Australia but that's one of the benefits of ordering the car from the factory and you can pick and choose options that you want.

What's silly about the sunroof and leather? Leather seats are fantastic and so much more comfortable than cloth. Is Australia special that we should only have cloth seats? Bi-xenons are available on the upper spec models, they're not going to offer another type of headlight just for the lower spec cars when they would barely sell any.

I buy the car I want with the specs I want and I really don't care too much about resale (within reason).

So true... it seems there are a lot of Toyota buyers here who are dipping their toes in the European lake and not yet sure whether they like it or not.

Some options are better value than others but it's all subjective to people's requirements.

I personally don't go overboard with the extras as you don't get much of it back but good to enjoy it while you have them. Otherwise as mentioned just get a vanilla toyota/honda and leave it stock as cars aren't investments.

Sitting on here discussing forever isn't going to result in one set of agreed options, so people should get what they want.

So true... it seems there are a lot of Toyota buyers here who are dipping their toes in the European lake and not yet sure whether they like it or not.

There's too much choice for them, Volkswagen need to have two option lists and two brochures.

Ain't that the truth! We were quite happy to wait and get the car we wanted rather than the pack we had to take. Still would have liked xenons, but the stock headlights are quite good, especially with the cornering lights. Not as good as the xenons on the Honda we traded in, but more than adequate.

Plus, you don't get idiots flashing you because they think low beam xenons are high beam.

Look at the specs of US models. They have even fewer standard features and options.

The model range is setup to be the most competitive in the market in which it is sold.

The option of bixenons on the volume sellers in the range would mean they would have to both stock spares (a high risk accident damage part) and stock cars with this option. VW have probably decided its not worth it for their 25K-33K Golf range to offer another combination of options.

The only other car in the category that I can think of that offers xenons (low beam) is Subaru and thats wrapped up in a leather/sunroof/xenon package. Easy to stock that.

The Mazda 3MPS had HID (low beam) on original model back in 2006 and the new Gen2 model has bi-xenons. All have LED tail lights..

Its a japanese thing....not euro

Does seem Euro drivers are a lot more fussy, I consider there to be enough options, especially with the new offerings. There comes a point when it's good enough.

Mazda 3MPS is a $45k car, not a $26k car that the base model Golf is. The GTI can have Bi-Xenons as well - the initial discussion was that you couldn't get Bi-Xenons on the non-GTI/R Golf models. I'm pretty sure you can't get them on the lower Mazda 3 models... not that I've looked that closely to their spec and options sheets cause I think that they're so hideously ugly! Plus, what's up with their fuel consumption, it's pathetic in comparison to the VW's

Your right most don't care about price, but just get miffed they can't have all available options in the menu.

I am sure you can't get all the options on any car imported into Australia that is available in the home market. Whether that be Japanese or European.

For instance... xenons are not available on a Non-GTI Golf in the UK. So, I can't see that we are being specifically screwed.

We dont get the option of a 1.4L 60kw option in the Golf yet no one complains about that
