175k km should keep most of us out of trouble for 6 years.
How much of the original warranty do you have left and how many kms are on the clock?

Now I just need to ask them about having an ECU tune covered under the extended policy.

I still have over a year (by a month) to go on the original warranty - not sure it makes much of a difference when you buy it but I know its something that I will be getting so figured (if the tax man is nice to me) that I'd do it soonish.
Car will be two mid August and atm has 31,500kms on it.

I have a feeling that the ECU tune will not be covered;
If you contact Kerry (kerry@leaseworks.com.au) she will be able to tell you but the PDS has this;

12. Any mechanical failure attributed to a modification
made to your vehicle, unless such modification
has been endorsed by the vehicle manufacturer.
Modified components must be disclosed on your
application and are expressly excluded from
coverage.

Reading that it sounds pretty clear cut about the ECU tune. That said, you can normally work around most things with insurance as long as you pay for it.
I don't have a tune yet so I'll be doing more research before going down that path anyway.

Your car is around the same age and kms as mine so it's a good example of what I'm up for. Thanks.

seems like I posted in the mk5 threaded instead. posting here, have had a thought re keeping my golf gti next year. but have decided if keeping I'd definitely want a warranty for peace of mind. the vw official warranty is quite pricey though $2900 was what quoted for 2 years. though I gather around $2k more likely negotiated pricing. still expensive. have also been told by my lease manager that with extended warranties even if official maker provided. that in the event you have to make a claim they try their best to suggest that its driver induced failure. eg with dsg failures...does that mean vw if the dsg went up in smoke would turn around and claim I blew it up ? just wondering has anyone actually claimed against these official warranties ...sucessfully for something like a dsg thats failed ? keen to know as no point getting a warranty so expensive to only find the provider will weasel out best they can ! anyways I have till next year to decide !

Bottom line is they have to conform to consumer law. Ask for a copy of their extended warranty statement and read over it. Make your decision on that basis.

thanks for the tip, will do, just wondering if anyone actually found these warranties to pay off... or is this just something to get for peace of mind and doesnt eventuate to anything.

oh yeah if got a warranty like this and if made a claim and got knocked back there would be an almighty stink I'd create. but I guess from the outset wondering if its something that has worked for people or not ?

You need to read the PDS for any extended warranty before deciding whether it is one for you or not.

From the Allianz PDS:

They are made to look like an extension of the maufacturer's original warranty by this:

provide cover for the repair or replacement of parts of your vehicle, in accordance with the cover provided by a manufacturer’s vehicle warranty (to the extent that the manufacturer’s vehicle warranty is applicable to the conditions set out in this policy), for the period of insurance;

While it might look like it is all good, you need to see the conditions.

I was looking into it to cover the drive train, however you then have this condition:

16. Any mechanical failure caused by a fault that existed prior to the commencement of cover.

Essentially, if you asked a dealer to check something in the drive train during one of the services or during a special visit, it can be taken as there being a fault prior to the commencement of cover.

As for modifications; you have this:

12. Any mechanical failure attributed to a modification made to your vehicle, unless such modification has been endorsed by the vehicle manufacturer. Modified components must be disclosed on your application and are expressly excluded from coverage.

What you are buying is insurance and it is not the manufacturer extending the warranty from 3 years to 6 years. Allianz are writing an insurance policy and it really has nothing to do with VW at all.

It may be for some, however I don't think that any insurance company remains in business because it covers something that is known to fail.

I wonder what VW would charge to rewrite its original warranty to read "6 years unlimited km" rather than sell you an extension insurance policy?

I noticed that Toyota is giving 6 years as standard now. I wonder how long it will be before people start demanding longer warranties.
That would be a nice change.

Kind of like life insurance.....I think they call it a 'pre-existing condition'.
IMO, then the argument is between Volkswagen and Alianz. If it is a pre existing condition, then it is still Volkswagens problem, if not, then it is Alianz's problem.
Having said that though, insurance companies being insurance companies, they will try and worm their way out of any payment if they can.

I got a quote on a few extended Allianz warranties (which she is going to hold the price on for me until the end July) and just thought I'd share;

24 months Extension of Time from Allianz for $1376.93
36 months Extension of Time from Allianz for $1492.86
36 months 75,000km for $1607.70

Thanks for posting this, Bel. Apparently I was a couple of weeks too late as Allianz have increased their prices significantly (this was stated without prompting by 3 different sources, unless they are all wise to the same caper).

36 month / 75,000k extension is now over $2100 from the mob you listed. This is a couple of hundred less than the 2 dealers I phoned.
I will most likely not hit the 100,000km mark in another 3 years so I'm tempted by the 36 month time extension only policy for $1800.

I'd quickly like to note that the company Bel linked above was very helpful - Kerry was forthcoming with options I wasn't aware of, didn't bother even quoting list price, didn't ask what I was quoted before continuing, and still came in lower than the dealers. Then she just offered to email the quote to me and didn't push to sign me up straight away, again unlike the dealers. Even if the dealers were a little less, I'll probably still sign up with Leaseworks - you can't beat good customer service.

Hi. I posted this about a month back in the 3 year warranty forum.....

For genuine article give Eric @ VW Burwin a call..He quoted me $1795 for 2 yr unlimited km VW warranty(keep in mind my car is '09 118TSI with Low kms)

Overall it depends on the model/age/kms on your car, but i found the following to be the best:

Kathy Wood, Business Manager @ Klosters VW: 1300 584 163. She was the cheapest for what I was after. Mention my forum user id when you speak to her.

I also found Anna Hayward, Business Manager, Moss Vale Motor Group to also be quite competitive. (02) 4868 1055

In the end, i went for the Allianz Extended Manufacturer Warranty, Extension of time...that is, 3year extension up to 100,000kms. I'm still under <30k and only do approx 10k/yr

Note, I didn't quote prices bc it all depends on car, model, age, Km's etc....I just managed to beat the price rise. I also spoke to Kerry from lease works, but have to say that both Anna and Kathy above beat her price straight up. With both Kathy and Anna, mention you got their contact off this forum, you can even add my username to Kathy as that's who I purchased through in the end(last Friday)

No worries at all. I didn't realise the price had gone up. I haven't actually purchased it yet but I did tell Kerry that I would be looking at it at the end of July and she said she would hold the price for me. I was waiting for my tax refund. Fingers crossed she gives into me at the price originally quoted.

On a side note I was in the dealership today and mentioned the extended warranty and the service chick said she has never had issues claiming through Allianz or VW for warranty work and that the Allianz policy was a good one as far as she was concerned. She also said that if she was in my position and thinking of keeping the car longer than 3 years then I should get the extended warranty.

I imagine you'd need to notifiy the insurer first, then take the car in for repairs as instructed by them. If you just take the car straight in for repairs the dealer will want to get paid for it.

Bought the Allianz warranty - extension of time - 3 years @ $1792 which was almost $500 cheaper than what the dealers have quoted me for the same thing.
