These wheels look nice, but they're definitely illegal on that car.
The offset for a 8" width wheel needs to be 50mm (as per Oettinger's wheels, check out the pictures of Guy_H's car for example). At 8" width and a 50mm offset they are already pushing the limit. Infact, when you option 18's from a VW dealer, they have to put wheel arch extensions on your car. This actually just came up in this thread today with a response from a VW dealer. The fact that your wheels are 8.5" AND have an offset of 45mm is wrong. The offset should be 56.35mm, or as close as you can get to that.
They only look like they're sticking out because the 4x4 ride height is letting in light onto the top of the tyrewall... I'd go so far as to suggest you've still got the shipping spacers in when these shots were taken - have you had a look at the springs?
As soon as you drop it, those tyres will sit within the guards.
Whether you'll rub or not is down to how the MK6 guards are made.
On a mkv you do the fender screw mod and you're rub free.
I'm speaking from my MKV experience running VMR V708 18x8.5 ET 45
and now running Work Emotion XT7 18x8.5 ET 46.
They are a more aggressive offset than anything you'll find from an OEM style manufacturer like oettinger/ronal etc.
