Im gathering you either love or hate the tartan trim; I actually really like it and I like the way it ties into the past. Im leaning towards the cloth trim, not to mention the added bonus of saving $3k.

Question; can anyone who has the cloth trim comment on its wear to date ? I know its early days but I thought I would ask

    Thx
Hmm thread seems to gotten a little off track.

So I have the Mk6 GTI with the Jackie trim, and love it, really comfortable and have had no wear to date (to be expected as I've only had the car for a month now) and am actually glad I didnt go for the leather.

Something I noticed on the last GTG drive was the guys with leather seats ended up with massive sweat stains down their backs I can only assume this was due to the leather not breathing?? My wifes car has leather and whilst it is nice I don't think it really adds much to a car like the GTI, but again its more of a personal choice really.

I can't comment on the wear in the cloth seats, but in the vehicle I tested, I found the cloth colour (particularly the red detail) much less vibrant than I'd expected. I requested the cloth trim anyway, but ended up getting the leather at a discounted price from the dealer when none were available. I'm glad I did - I'm much happier with the leather look.

I had cloth in my MkV GTI and it did not wear well on the drivers side support - 4 years and a hole in the cloth that was quite noticeable, hence I am getting leather in my MkVI GTI.

I'd go leather, its still undeniably classier and is more robust to wear and tear. I often drink coffee or eat the occasional McD burger in the car so it was a no-brainer for me.
HOWEVER.........I think VW made a huge mistake in not offering non-black leather colors as alternatives. I would prefer a lighter leather to black to make the inside more inviting and spacious. Even a blood red leather would be really nice.
I do have to admit, Jacky cloth is still the best cloth in a car......ANY car.

Just FYI, I ordered mine with leather, lumbar, electric seats (main reason is the wife will be driving it as well).

Yes you see a few BMWs with the red leather seats, looks different. I saw a white 1 series couple with red seats, it does stand out. So why not VW, to make a difference for owners.

A hole? ****.. how many KM?

Sure a warranty might only be 3 years but if I had a whole in my seat within reasonable KM (under 200k) I would be pissed.

Each to their own, i prefer cloth, so i buy cars with cloth, leather doesn't add a lot to resale and i reckon it ages better (than poorly maintained leather which is most cases).

Nothing worse than getting in to a leather seat on a 40 degree day IMO.

Only had 1 car with leather in the past and swore never again.

Nothing better than getting in to a HEATED leather seat on a 10 degree day IMO.

Nothing toughens you up more than getting in a leather seat on a 40 degree day IMO.

As i said each to their own....

If i had the choice it would be for cloth with the electric adjustment...

I find that as long as the car has been parked so that the sun hasn't been hitting the seat fronts directly (as in sun coming through the front windscreen... so make sure the car is parked so that the side tint or rear of the car is facing the sun direction) that getting into a Golf GTI with leather is no worse than getting into my Polo GTI with cloth. In both cases you're going to sweat until the aircon catches up. The only diff is that the sweat is absorbed into the cloth seats - which is absolutely gross to me - it's not like you can just pull out your seats and throw them in the washing machine. :/

But yeah, as everyone has said. Each to their own

                            100% agree with the above.

The factory leather is expensive, no doubt, but its worth it.

I do love the look and smell of leather. But I do hate the sweating that comes with it... i think its worth the trade off though.

The Lexus IS250, and i'm sure many other cars, has leather seats that have tiny holes in allowing them to breath like cloth. They are fantastic... and allow warm or cooled air to be blown through them. If VW ever option them I would pick them in a heartbeat.

The 2025 Lexus IS combines aggressive styling, seamless connectivity and agile performance.

                                Leather is the bomb!

But if you dont have the cash, then the cloth seats are seriously the best cloth seats ive seen! They look great!

I ordered the GTI with leather..
