  • baby car seats???

Just out of interest guys can anyone tell me how well a backward facing car seat fits in a MK6 GTI?

My wife has a MK4 golf and when we went to look at buying car seats yesterday we did a trial run to check how it fits. Sure enough it fitted in the back but it meant the front passenger seat had to go so far forward neither my wife or I could fit in the seat.

Interested to know how others have dealt with this predicament and whether the Mk6 interior dimensions are bigger/more accomodating than the Mk4

I've got my heart set on a Mk6 GTI as my new company car and need to be able to look after my little one that's due late Feb. Safe'N'Sounds Infant capsule I was unaware of and I'll have to have a look into. (Cheers Dion M)

The MKV/MK6 does have more space. But as everyone has different baby seats and people are different heights and opinions of 'enough space' is always different, the best thing you can do is just take your baby seat down to a VW dealer and put it in the car. I'm sure all VW dealers would be more than happy to accomodate you in fitting it to a demo.

This is true - my dealer even let me bring in my big slobbery dog to see if he would fit in the back of the Golf. Result - he did, and I got permission to get the GTI.

Get some Recaro's for the youngster.

Not sure if this would fit btw, but just know that you can get em.

Get one of these when they're older

Can't get the Recaro's in Australia AFAIK. Don't meet Australian standards... ?

            Hey Goldy,

I recently got a MK6 Golf Gti. We have a 7 month old.

With the Baby seat in the rearward facing position, the front passenger seat did have to be forward a bit. It was certainly 5-10 cm forward of my seat, but I'm 6ft 2'.

I wouldn't be to concerned by it, certainly not enough to look at a different size car. I was pretty impressed at how well everything (stroller etc) fit in the car.

            Cheers

When my first was born we tried the rear facing seat in the middle but it meant BOTH seats had to be too far forward for my liking. In the end we moved it to the passenger side for just that reason.

In a Subaru Outback we had the same issue, in the Mk3 we never even tried since it's tight enough with a forward facing seat... and the two current kids are big enough to be forward facing so it's all good.

...now try and fit in three seats...

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

thanks for all the feedback guys. Sounds like it should be all good then. just might have to take the seat down to the dealer... or take the GTI for a test drive past Baby Bunting. haha

                Cheers,

                Tim
