MK6 Front Tint to match factory 'Dark Tint' option
Here is mine is daylight. Apologies for not being fully side on, but I didn't take the shot with the intent to show the tint. However, hopefully it'll help some people out.
Certain people disagree or have different opinions etc, but the measurements that I have seen (with the professional light meters similar to what the police would use for testing) is 42% VLT. Effectively you could only put a "clear tint" on the factory tint for added UV if you want to completely stay within the bounds of the law. The clear tint would need at least 85% VLT if your windows really do measure at 42%.
Hmmm I'm not sure what to do now lads. I was just trying to darken up the back without going over the top (As we have a very lucky new baby about to arrive and sit in the back of the R) and also making the fronts a little bit darker but nothing daft.....
Recommendation?

Don't mind going ever so slightly above the law on the backs!

I've said it numerous times before, but if you don't mind going below legal on the rear and rear side windows, nor having a small step in "darkness" between them and the front side windows, then using Solargard HP Quantum 52 on the rears and Solargard HP Supreme 35 on the fronts is the way to go.

First of all, congrats!
The lucky little baby will be fine without any additional tint. There's more than enough UV protection in the rear window glass, and even more from the factory tint. make sure he/she gets a proper dose of vitamin D!
As for the front, maybe go for ~40% to match the 42% VLT at the rears

So if you wanna block all the UV, you put the clear tint on there
it would lower the UV from negligible to even less than negligible. the only way to block it all would be to black all the windows out, but i'm not sure if langers is that type of parent

Yes... but chylld UV is only a single consideration with tint. Heat rejection is another. Color, tint, reflection, etc are more.
Even from what limited/conflicting information Volkswagen themselves have released about the factory tint, there are MANY far superior tint films available aftermarket from a heat rejection stand point.
Very kind words chylld, we are both very excited and busy spending far too much money on baby stuff we could probably get much cheaper! I mean, christ, how much are strollers these days!!?

You're welcome, I'm also expecting to be in the same situation as you in the next couple of years - and I'm also in the lower north shore (north sydney). I've also been looking into strollers, have my eyes on a collapsible maclaren which is a bit pricey, but the golf's boot (esp the R) isn't exactly huge hehe.

I definitely agree on the heat rejection stand point, but again, glass does block a lot of it already. I just think the topic's been way overdone, people have become obsessed with blocking out every bit of the outside world just to maintain a little bit of peace in their mobile bubble. If you read this article on UV/skin cancer etc you'd think it was the end of the world!!
My weather forecast app now tells me the bloody UV index ffs.
When my little ones come along, they will get a hat, a slap of sunscreen, and they're going outside to play. They're going to fall over, get cuts and bruises and scrapes and they're gonna learn naturally to harden the f up. Over-protection just sets you up for a bigger fall down the track.
Anyway back to window tint, do it because you want a cosmetic effect, not because you want to increase a statistic by a meaningless amount.

Wise words fella wise words! If I tint the back windows the missus won't put fugly shades up in the back, that's the deal so that's good enough for me.....
What colours your R, I'm sure I will have seen it around..... Mine is RB with Black 19"s plus the neccessary Watercooled sticker on back windscreen.

Right all done. Beautiful day for it. Rob is both professional and thorough. Highly recommended. In the end I went with 52 at the back and sides and 35 in the front. Looks awesome. Dark but not too dark and keeping that nice gradient from back to front. Pics soon.
