  • I second Gregoz, have used this idea to great success in a lot of engines over the years, matters a lot more in older, less factory run in engines, but even then I've yet to have a car / bike use oil or not produce great power stock on a dyno.

Load her up via hills / gears, floor it, keep the revs sensible. Repeat. Just avoid those constant revs on a flat trip!!!

Do the bi-xenons as well man! If you ever drive at night (which is most of us) they're absolutely awesome. The funniest thing about them, is as impressive as the GTI is, for most of my 'non car enthusiast friends' who I took for a drive at night, the forward visibility due to the bi-xenons was the thing they commented on about most! lol

Plus, you've already spent $65k, what's another $2k to finish it off

Didn't realise they could be dealer-fitted. But I'm guessing they'd charge more than the factory option too - the cagey blighters.

Bluetooth will be my next expense anyway. I'm not paying almost $2500 fitted for the Premium system because it doesn't support the iPhone. The dealer said the Skoda 729 A part was listed in their system but they couldn't access it so it's not available to order. I've found the part available from Poland for about $500 - but I'm not hot about ordering something that I'm less than 100% sure will work. Fiscon is the other option, but even that is a Europe/US order. An absolutely pain there is no local solution that integrates with the RNS 510 and an iPhone.

        • I'm not sure if the Bi-Xenons can be dealer fitted. However, I know others have done it on their MK5's without bothering about the washers. Presumably, because the MK6 has the provision in all front bumpers, you could also fit the washers. But alas, I don't know who did or could do the work.

As for blue-tooth - have a chat to the guys over in the VW Car Audio and Electronics forum

Not sure I'd bother with the washers. Why are they so important for the xenons? Or is it just wank factor?

I posted in the Car Audio forum a couple of days ago, but no bites so far.

I think it is an ADR that cars with bi-xenon headlights need to have washers for them.

Love your new ride. Very jealous. Looks SOOOOO much better on those 18's!

Because Xenon's are "high intensity" projector-style lights, having dirt and grime on the heatlight cover can defract light and cause oncoming drivers to be startled. A decent enough size piece of dirt can even cause a 'blind spot' in your own forward vision. This is why all cars fitted with Xenons must have headlight washers.

You should have let me know, Murph, I would gladly have take the GTI for a spin for you!

Murph, I am in the same boat and it is pretty hard to find info on the options via Google. There are a few VW specific threads around here and also on UK forums. Sounded like Fiscon was slightly better than the Skoda alternative. Don't know who fits these and i am not game to try to do it myself and ruin the very exy satnav. Also interested in retrofitting the camera if it is not stupidly expensive.

I will talk more with my dealer when I pick up my car and post again if I get any more info. Let us know what you find out.

Hmmm - I'm of the opinion that said offer is akin to asking to take my wife for a "spin" when I'm busy. Duly noted, and politely declined.

My dealer service centre offered to fit whatever 3rd party unit I decided to buy. They tried to order the Skoda unit for me, but the code is barred in their system. I'm very happy with the installation offer and will probably take it up when I decide which unit to buy.

In that case, I'd probably not bother. Sounds a bit fiddly to fit after delivery....

Even though he made me wait for 20 minutes after i arrived (wrapping up a new sale), he showered us with the full treatment: Wine, flowers, ipod adapter for mdi thrown in, red carpet, and the fancy unveiling. I had a small audience when i drove her off the floor, even though it was early friday afternoon. I've only done about 150km so far, but i've barely had the (dynaudio) stereo on just so i can listen to the exhaust note. Creamworthy. Road trip this weekend!
