Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled
After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before.
We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Yeah - effectively you have more torque earlier in the revs, and you seem to get to the speed limit quicker, but with less effort. You can then do a lot more coasting to maintain speed, with small inputs to just top it up etc. So you could actually reduce consumption. However, if you were at a track where you're always on the accelerator, then you'd use more, cause you're able to constantly have the gas planted.

ya just wasnt sure ive been in the V8 scene where a tune (and even cam) if tuned right will yeild better economy. just wasnt sure if these were at their 'economy' limits standard didnt really want to wreck the reason i got the golf for "economy"90 TSI 1.4T

As long as you stay away from the Golf R, all Golf's (and Polo's) give good economy

yeah I dont' know either... modding a GTI or R is one thing, cause there isnt really anything above it within $10k of their respective prices.... whereas not far above the 90TSI you have the 118TSI... so I don';t really think anyone caters for 90TSI purchasers much due to this fact....

My new lowest average trip fuel consumption record today after 1700km of driving the GTI. A 9km trip that was around 40% highway, 60% city driving, with two sport-mode take offs at the lights and a little hoon in the Graham Farmer tunnel... yet the car drank an average of 7.5L/100km. I was proud.MY11.5 5dr GTI // Carbon Steel / DSG / Detroits / RNS510 / Bluetooth / Euros

Kangaroo Valley Run yesterday. Above ground parking lot (M5), Hume, Kangaroo Valley then across to Berry and back up through the Macquarie Pass, M7. Plenty of hard driving, holding on to gears through the twisty stuff but also more relaxed open road cruise and freeway stuff.
Average of 8.9l/100km. Not too bad.Audi S3. Sold
