The MK6 Fuel Consumption (Most / Least per Tank) Thread
S,D, manual . A drive a mix of all 3
It uses heaps in stop start traffic. Just today I was looking at the instant l/100 on the mfd and until u get to 4th (D mode) it drinks like a fish. So lots of stop, start I presume causes me to use lots of juice.
& of course I squirt it when I can in S or manual mode coz that's why I bought an R. Lots of fun lately in the wet I might ad.
Have Viezu Motorsport tune on my R, with mostly city driving and avg consumption is btw 11.8 - 12 l/100kms. Not too bad given the power I guess. Used to get just over 200kms per tank in my RX3!
Just got back from a good 600km drive down south and the highway average at a steady 110+ kph was around 8.9L/100km, around town with stop start drives to work (15km) I still average 12.5L/100km. I figure if you want to acheive VW's claimed consumption then you'd have to drive like my nanna around town and sit on the highway at less than 100kph! Though this defeats the purpose of the R and was not the reason I bought one
VW really should have made a bigger fuel tank for the Golf R. Around town, where i do 95% of my driving, and averaging around the 11.0L /100km the fuel gauge drops pretty quickly. When i fill up, seeing the distance to empty saying 450km is pretty dismal. Another 10-15 litres added to the fuel tank would be a big thumbs up in my opinion.
SMOKEY - you are getting some awesome economy from your 90TSI. Obviously doing quite a bit of constant speed freeway/open road driving adds to your good results, but damn, 850+ k's form a tank is awesome.
I had the fuel light come on for the first time yesterday in the new R, drove another 15 or 20km, and it had distance to empty 3km . Filled up, and haven't put 55l of fuel in a car for a while (wrx has same sized tank, 60l, and would typically put 45l in, with driving around on the light for a few days/60km or so!)
But the manual R is a thirsty beast, probably as i am enjoying its awesome power and flooring it everywhere .
My distance to empty was only 410km when i filled up, i often don't see better than 13 or 14l/100km, so hardly surprised (wrx with Synth gear and engine oil for city driving was about 12 or 13, but similar to the golf now when it was new with standard oil).
P.p.s I checked the manual, most Golf models have a 60l tank which includes a 7l reserve (presumably when the light comes on), which lines up closely with my filling up experience yesterday.
I think that size is ample, any bigger compromises on both space and weight, the golf is a pretty small car.
