  • My 09 build MY10 started the chirp at almost exactly 4,000km. Have just booked in with my dealer who heard the noise clearly. All known and covered under warranty.

It sounds like a little mouse is under my bonnet and is doing it almost all the time now. It will not be missed!

    • My 09 golf developed the same noise and the water pump under warranty. 7k kms later the chrip come back, if this is going to happen every 7k km than VW should be replacing the part free for the rest of the cars life. It is a desgin fault and we should not have to pay for the part after the warranty period has ended. Has anyone else experienced this problem after it has been replaced? I would be interested to know.

I have booked my Aug 09 purchased 118TSI to look at the squeak on 20 Aug together with the 15k or 12 mths service. The car was in the workshop almost 2 mths ago and they claim that the issue was repaired (cannot find out what repaired means). It went away and came back 2 weeks ago.

Hoping that they replace mine with the supposed new model that fixes the issue.

        • I bought my 118TSi in July '10 (built in March '10) and the car developed the same issues after 500 kms... I thought I would have had the fix...

Your Golf is probably coming with new w/pump, unfortunately it is looking that new pump is not fixing famous squeal ....

Just an update - got my 12mth/15k service done today and the news on the squeak is that VW is working on another fix and will be informed when the new water pump is available. So for now have to live with the squeak

              • Strange Squeek

                Hi All,

Just purchased a Candy White 118TSI, gotta say, Mk6 Golf looks the best in white or black (no offence to the other colours )

My previous ride was a 1998 Audi A3 1.8T with GIAC chip, BMC CAI, OZ 17", Forge DV, and still pulling hard at 250,000kms. Sadly i've to trade it in for 118TSI Golf, however the golf is as good, so far.... lol

Anyway, the golf have reached 3000kms, and i found that whenever i apply throttle, it gives an audible squeek. This happens when i backed off throttle, then apply again, squeek happens.

I'm seeing the dealer today, i'm hoping someone have the same experience and have some sort of answer. Thank you

                • Hey mate, welcome to the forums. If you had done a search on the correct spelling of squeak, you'd have found this thread. I've merged your post into it. Your answer is within.

                  • Thanks for that, yes, spelling is a common disability among designers (the ones I hire anyway >_<), and I do rely heavily on spell check.

I will post my findings after a trip to the dealer today.

                    Thanks again.

                    • so....

spoke to dealer yesterday, and they said it is a known 'sound' (they are avoiding the word 'problem'), and it is a common trait of all 1.4TSI. He said so far they haven't got instructions from VW to fix it under warranty, but he will keep me posted on any developments.

I took delivery of my car just about 1 month ago, so i guess they might have a fix for the MK7 Golfs?

I will also be attending a VW organised workshop in the next week, i will raise it with them again to see if they have any other answer (its a bigger forum of technicians).

                      • Yeah - sounds good mate. Let us know how it goes in that "bigger forum".

Btw, in the past they have had a warranty fix for it - but they have found that the fix eventually develops the squeak as well. So they're probably working on yet another iteration of it.

                        • Yes, my squeak was "fixed" a couple of weeks ago under warranty. Noise is definitely gone for now . Interesting to see how long, if at all, it will take to come back.

                              • I've had two clutches replaced since I got the car. The last replacement was in June 2010 and supposed to be the new redesigned version. Well, the squeak is back. Not as loud or consistent. Guess I got to live with it.
