Headlights don't work with the ignition off either. That manual is a damn handy book, it's full of all sorts of things like the existence of foglights, how to work switches and other useful features

So i stand corrected - there is a foglight.....although i doubt ill ever use it.
Now you know about you will find all sorts of uses for it like telling tailgaters to bugger off, people with their front foglights on can be sent a message and if there's fog you can use it for it's purpose.

Or you can turn it on when you're reversing at night... when it's foggy

LED Reverse Light for Mark VI 118TSI

          Hi Everyone,

The car currently has the one pissweak reversing light - looking at getting it replaced with an LED one.

Bold Sport have one for US$19.99 - has anyone purchased/installed this?

Do I need a wiring loom or something like that or is it a straight swap?

Is there something similar available in Sydney - Ideally I would like to put a LED into the other side as well so I get 2 reversing lights - anyone done this and where would I be able to get the clear cover from?

I looked up the forums but cannot see anything posted here about it.

          Thanks for your help

LED Reverse Light for Mark VI 118TSI

Ive upgraded my reverse lights to twins and fitted the LED bulbs from Bold Sport - much much better visibility. Cost me around $300 all up but its worth it (new tail light housing from Euro model, new LED bulb and the wiring).

Mind you, the Golf R tail lights use a different bulb to the normal Golf lights - so i dont think those bulbs from Bold Sport will fit your car.

I have upgraded all of my interior, licence plate and reverse lights on my Mk6 R with the ones from De Auto Key (Reverse Lights: MK6 GTI Golf Euro Taillights Reverse CREE LED Kit - Error Free and Bright — deAutoKey )

They do not seem to differentiate between R and normal reverse lights, just Euro/Non-Euro.

I actually have a spare (brighter of the 2 on the site) reverse light and error cancelling resistor, and entire interior white LED set, if you were interested and they fit.

If you wanted to let me know the number on the bulb currently fitted I can tell you if it's the same I took out.

Thanks - I will see if I can find the number without too much trouble.

So has anyone come up with a solution to get the right reverse light active? Whats the method?

no, because its not a reverse light.
euro cars usually only have one reverse light, the other is a rear red fog light.
the rear fog light is used during heavy fog/snow fall.

you can use your headlight switch to turn on the rear fog light, usually by pulling out the dial slightly.

US-market cars get two reverse lights, and a central electrics module coded to support it. It's possible that a recode of the module could allow both lights to be enabled on reverse, but I've not heard of it working so the best way to achieve it is to rewire the light that was the rear fog (tap into the reverse wire), and purchase a Euro (LHD)-spec inner tail light cluster to replace the one in the car with the rear fog - as per what Lucas has done.

Why not save all your money and gently tap the brakes when reversing. Gives more than enough light to see by.

Have done that for years and so far havent hit anything when doing it.

I kinda like having a rear fog light though... Anyone who says we don't need them in Australia doesn't drive from Sydney to Wollongong very often...

Wow, I didn't know reverse lights were serious business !
I didn't even know I had one reverse light till someone pointed it out recently, I'm not so retarded a driver that I rely on a small 20w globe to help me drive my car backwards, I've been doing it over 20 years now, if I can't manage it, something's wrong, lol.

I think the younger generation rely too much on reversing cameras and other technology to take up the slack in their horrible driver education these days. I can't imagine a young bloke these days in a small truck with no back window and camera trying to reverse out of a small driveway, their would be Twitter posts and Facebook posts galore, #stuckinanalley #yolodintoafence etc.
