There is a more affordable bluetooth option, the skoda kit is available for under $600.

With things like Ford Sync out there, VW are weak in this area for those who want seamless music and phone integration, voice commands etc. I expect this will be a focus area for the next gen Golfs.
Volkswagen have one of the best systems available, no other manufacturer offers what VW do and nor do they offer the integration or CHOICE. The voice commands are far far more advanced than those from other manufacturers and they use Harman Becker and Temic for voice control who are world leaders in their fields.

      .

Wow, is this how these forums run? I simply expressed an opinion mate or is your opinion the only one that counts.

I like your website btw. Trouble is that's only my opinion which is obviously wrong!

I never said your opinion was wrong but you were blaming VW and saying that bluetooth, icrud and other should all be standard because they are on the Getz and adding that you should be able to plug in a media player on a $50,000 car (which you can because the car comes standard with a 3.5mm in).

VW offer a heap of options and you can pick and choose the ones that you want. I really don't know what more VW can do

Shame they dont offer that straight through VW. $2K for the real deal BT kit is pretty steep.

Really? I find that a bit surprising. I am no expert mind you but I dont recall VW being talked about in the tech world as a leader for BT/Multimedia?car interfacing.
For example Ford offers voice control of climate control since 2007. Sync is coming this year which offers allot more - iTunes tagging, etc.
Mercedes, BMW, Toyota have voice navigation control as well.

I hear the VW BT audio streaming aint great sound quality (no surprise there) and MDI connection has a problem with slow user interface, quiet second or two at the beginning of tracks for some owners, and reset of playlists back to beginning. I figure I will be better mounting my iPhone on the dash and using it directly to avoid some of these issues.

            • I've never used the ford and other systems but they may not work as well as you'd think based on tge rest of the build quality.

I'd rather pay more for something that fully integrates but agree 2k is absurd for Bluetooth and/or not as good as the skoda kit.

Whats the best way to get and have the Skoda kit fitted to a Golf VI?

                • If you are near Sydney I think European Autotech can fit them.

Well I dunno about the getz but i know the still-cheaper-than-golf i30 has a standard USB socket with with no high tech cable required to plug you iphone into it, just the cable used on your computer. Brings the icrud stuff up on the display just like the golf and charges the iCrud too.

But if your like me and don't give a **** because apple products are overpriced and COMPLETELY overated. you just get the RNS510 and put chunk loads of songs on the Hard drive and SD card.

However I do think its pretty rude that the getz, yaris, corolla ect come with bluetooth and the golf doesn't. Not even in the GTI.

Theres alot of things the golf hould have that it doesnt which doesn't impress me one bit, all these add ons calculate to one thing, and thats less resale value which is completely stupid at the end of the day.

We need a highline model over here with STD leather and maybe sunroof an RNS 510. Then only a few more options will be required, not $10k worth like on my Mk6

                    • I can see where people are coming from, BMW has standard bluetooth and USB/ipod that works quite well. Next generation VW should hopefully include a few basics like this.

Paying for too many options and extras is like pi55ing into the wind.

BMW don't offer bluetooth ($529) or USB/Icrud ($$$$) on the 1 series standard nor does it offer Voice Recognition (to get this you have to buy the Nav System Pro with favourite buttons at $4500).

BMW also charge $635 for electric lumbar support (standard on the GTI with leather seats), $725 for seat heating (standard on the GTI with leather seats), $954 for alarm (Standard on GTI), Bi-Xenons adaptive for $3750 ($1800 on the GTI) and the list goes on.

All of a sudden the Volkswagen options (which work far better than the BMW ones) seem pretty reasonable!

                        • I honestly didn't know that there was a 3.5mm plug fitted for music players so have learned something tonight. I will have the MDI factory fitted because I think it will integrate nicely with the sat nav unit.

I really do need a handsfree system so will look at installing the Skoda bluetooth.

I'm sure I'll use the hard drive and SD option for music but I do like to listen to podcasts from my iPhone.

                          • Hey guys,

How do you know if your MDI is a factory fitted or dealer fitted?

Mine is situated in the arm rest of my 2010 GTI.

My issue is that the playback quality is bad!, if I connect the same ipod via the AUX cable it sounds perfect but when playing via the MDI it sounds like its cracking and fuzzy.

                            Anyone have the same problem?

Any suggestions on how to mend this?

                              It shouldn't make a difference.

It's factory fitted in that case.

Have you tried another ipod or iphone?

Call you dealer and book your car in after you have tested another ipod/iphone to make sure it's not something to do with yours. Read the manual as well as it may offer some advice regarding line levels (not sure if this is relevant).
