The thought of having to sync my itunes purchases with a SD card all the time, kills me so thanks for all the replies

Now to see what it'll cost. I've had a quick chat with the sales guy and he said it'll be $500 or so
Dont forget to get them to throw in/provide the iPod cable as there is a backorder in NSW of 112 of them at the moment....

Or have a look around on ebay... cheaper than buying it from a dealer. Part no. for the iPod MDI cable is 000 051 446 C

        Cheers all

I did want it factory fitted but I had to go for a car they had in stock as I needed to take delivery by the end of 2009.

I wanted leather too but let's not start that conversation. LOL

If you had a MP3 player with a proper aux out (not the headphone socket) then the music quality through the AUX IN would be quite acceptable

Maybe, maybe not it's more to do with the loudness but perhaps the AUX IN jack/interface is low quality.. plenty of other devices/headphones sound fine from the headphone jack.

The MDI is still worthwhile as it's a lot more convenient and safer than controlling music from the mp3 player/ipod.

Yup.. for me its all about controlling the music from the screen.

The number of times i've changed songs on my iPhone at speed is crazy and stupid.

In my MK4 GTI, I had an Alpine headunit that had full iphone compatibility and the sound from both the AUX/headphone port and the dedicated iphone interface, were perfect It's a shame about the VW AUX port

I agree too that it's so much better to control your iphone via the VW unit. For the last week I've been running the phone thru the AUX port. Way too hard to dig around for the phone on the passenger seat, to skip tracks, etc.

Today, I dumped 16GB worth of music onto a SDHC card and it was great! The quality was perfect and navigating thru the music was brilliant, especially using the wheel controls.

MDI for me is definitely worth it Will be booking it in, in the new year.

Can't have a thread without conspiracy theorists...

Not everyone has an Ipod. Like me, others may require a mini-USB lead to charge their phone, or go one step further, and use that as their MP3-based device.

Maybe Apple should include a 240V wall charger with their Ipods? Well that's my theory anyway...

Is it not possible to use the iPod USB cable that came with the iPod to plug it in??

That's what I assumed also Coaster - that we could use that cable.

After all, the MDI is a regular USB 2.0 connection. The whole thing is just bull****.

Yep, that is very bizarre. If they don't throw the cable in free of charge when I get my MkVI I will not be pleased!

Nope. It will not read your device.

You need the proper iPod cable to go with the MDI.

Part Number is 000 051 446 C. (rrp ~$90, got mine for $75, otherwise check the US sites approx USD $50).

Mike Weber has a few in stock for anyone in Brisbane who wants one ($75 each).

You can buy a brand new ipod for the same price as this 'feature'. lol.
Not everyone owns an ipod as their chosen mp3 player.
(although most people i can think of has an ipod/iphone now). Still don't know why plugging a normal ipod cable into the MDI's usb doesn't work..
