Ah, well spotted GTiCrow, you're very close I actually took some of the pics on Gorge road. Went up there last week for a while through the Hills. Very pleased with how the car handled, fuel economy etc.

I've done the Greenhill rd run a few times now, and by the end I must look like some sort of hysterical loon I'm having so much fun. I'm the first to admit I'm no pro racer, so being able to brake hard, downshift and turn in simultaneously, without taking a hand off the wheel or worrying about unsettling the car when downshifting (and keeping the brake application consistent during same), makes the GTI with DSG just ridiculously fast on these roads. Not to mention it has just the right amount of movement at the rear on fast turn in, without being scary - this car is a brilliant drive.

Definitely worthy of another banana!

I went the manual option, so hands have to come off the wheel for me occasionally, but I'm still loving it.

I was enjoying it so much the other day up Gorge road..I forgot about that little thing called a "speed limit" for about 20mins..oops!

Hey just thought I should mention that I saw a WHITE 3DR GTI on SYdney's Harbour Bridge today.. and it was on Detroits. Best looking car I have seen in ages.

It stood out to me so much and looked so clean. I must of looked nuts cause I was double taking a couple of times cause I have only seen red stock ones on 17s thus far, and this blew me away.

I saw the same in red...3dr with 18" detroits...looked really nice...esp with the tint...personally I think white or red work best for the 3 dr...the other colours look odd

Mate i am in exactly the same position as you, i mean the EXACT. I have changed my order from a GTI to an
R. Was going to go a 3 door in RB with Black 19's but have gone 5 door RB with Silver 19's as i also plan
on keeping the car for a while.

The only differnece is i have gone for the Manual 6sp over the DSG as i thought the novelty would wear off
after 6 months. Man was it is/was a tuff decision, the DSG is awesome. Have i made the correct decision ?????????? Guess we will find out in time. Good luck with the R mate

Some new pics done today.......

This is what I had on order (minus the drop). But cancelled for an R.. almost wish I hadn't the way that car looks!

And the R just doesnt look that great in black to me, as all the details like the air vents etc get lost in colour.

Where with the black GTI, you get the beautiful red lines etc.. Honeycomb grill.. and the Detroits which really look great for the size.

The 19's on the R almost dont look as big as the detroits.. its so wierd albeit a bit dissappointing.

When I decided to go an R, since my budget was getting blown out MORE than $10K extra.. I decided to go the 4 doors (I still sort of dont know why? Maybe more of a longer term Keeper?? )... even though I wish I went the 2 door as it looks better, especially in the R.

I reckon even more so than the GTI!! (i.e. the 4 Door GTI still looks great to me). The 4 doors lines on the R look a bit more off.. now Im just being difficult but just what i see.

REXman, have you seen a black R 'in the flesh'? I spotted one in the carpark of Rhodes Shopping centre over the weekend and I went 'Daaamn, that doesn't look half bad' - and this is from someone who isn't 100% sold on the Mk6s looks. I'd have to say, it looks better than the CW ones (sorry FLM - wasn't having a go at your car) - Still like the CWs too but if I were to get one, I'd get a black one - the car looked mean.

It had silver 18" rims and silver accented headlights.

I'm starting to see quite a lot of MKVIs now, and even quite a few GTIs - almost one a day, maybe?
Looks like we're finally starting to get through those long waiting lists
At a rough guess almost 95% of the GTIs I see are on Detroits, too.

I live and work in the city, though, so maybe I see more of them than one would otherwise encounter
