Just wondering what tint you have on your TSI. Is it the tint that comes with the Sports Pack, or something else?

The 17" wheels do have some value as you say, and I won't dispute your estimate of $1000 a set on the second hand market, as I really wouldn't have a clue. I was writing about the marginal cost via VW though, as that is what a new car purchaser would be dealing with; VW deletes the 17"s and replaces them with 18"s. That said, I certainly wouldn't pay $1000 a wheel for Detroits (excluding tyres no less) under any circumstances, and I wonder how many would. For that reason I still think your estimate of their true worth is overstated (price is one thing, worth is another). Just my opinion though, so no hard feelings OK?Originally posted by coreying View PostNot really. It's not that easy to sell the original 17" GTI wheels. If you can find anyone to buy them as a set, you might get $1000 (from sales I've seen around the forums). So $1200 vs $4200 (to account for the $1000 you may get in the OE sale) is still a huge difference.

Yeah - and whilst I agree with you, it still doesn't change how much money you actually have to hand over.
Your new car HAS to come with wheels. So regardless of what wheels are on there, if you want to upgrade to a set of 18" wheels, you have 1 option from the factory, which is $1200, or you can go any of the dealer accessories wheels (all over $4k once you add tyres), or the option that you suggested ($5200).
So it doesn't really matter how you want to state the value of the original wheels, $1200 vs $4k or $5k etc is a huge difference. That's all I was pointing out.
And of course no hard feelings

The back windows and hatch are just the tint that comes with the sports pack. Front windows were done by Tint-A-Car, their "Midnight Express" darkest legal tint. If you look carefully, they don't quite match - the back windows are marginally darker and have a disconcerting green colour to them - but it's good enough for me. I didn't really shop around because Tint-A-Car in West Perth are a short walk from work and their quote was less than half what the dealer wanted.Originally posted by diop View PostHey cameronp,
