Yet, the Detroit's are a $1200 option, whereas they're $4k plus at least $1.2k for tyres, meaning $5,200 all up! $1200 vs $5200 is MUCH more than twice the cost! It's actually over 4 times the cost! So they'd want to be better
The Detroits are AWESOME value for sure. I was going to get them but changed the order as I wasn't sure they were the 'right' option for us for a number of reasons. There is no doubting though that they look fantastic and really suit the car. I'm definitely going to look into getting my 17's painted up..

the only problem with Detroits, every mans dog got one.... they really should of bring more options for sports GTI.... Im really looking in to getting other 17'' that look good...
as far as painting rims.... asked for a quote from local shop .... they said around $500-600 which is fair a bit
that just leaves us with DIY but I dont have facilities
His: Golf6 5door GTI DSG Carbon Sunroof MDI and 18" Drag rims + sticker that gives extra horse power
Hers: Skoda Kodiaq Tech/Lux pack and sunroof
Go elsewhere man. In Sydney, $600 would include REPAIRS (of scuffs) to all 4 wheels as well as the painting! That is how much it cost the forum member who posted his pictures of painted 17" GTI rims
Nice car mate... I find it quite ironic that there is a 'strictly no parking' sign in the background

Detroits are AWESOME value
$1,200 is the marginal cost over the standard 17" wheels and tyres, so you have to discount the $5,200 estimate you have given for 18"ers by the cost of the 17"ers to determine the true value of Detroits. This statement shouldn't be taken to mean that Detroits are not good value; just that your estimate of their value is overstated.

Not really. It's not that easy to sell the original 17" GTI wheels. If you can find anyone to buy them as a set, you might get $1000 (from sales I've seen around the forums). So $1200 vs $4200 (to account for the $1000 you may get in the OE sale) is still a huge difference.
