Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • DSG Oil leak? 2010 MK6 GTI

I was changing my oil last week and when I got under the car I noticed a little droplet of fluid under the DSG metal housing. Poking around I couldn't really figure out how it got exactly there and It didn't seem like a huge leak.

The fluid didn't smell like engine oil rather like nothing really.

I wiped it all down like someone else suggested on another thread and came back today to find the droplet was back in the same spot.

I'm now wondering what I do next. Which parts should I be checking in depth and has anyone had the same leak droplet location before?

Also, will the DSG protect itself if the fluid gets too low? Will it show an error on the MFD or will it eventually go into limp mode whilst I'm driving? I don't have a scanner as well but I don't think it would tell me the level right?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

DSG cant tell you its low on fluid. It would take years to empty itself at that rate. Probably the seal under the cover thats leaking not expensive but you need to drain the box to do it. So worth doing at the same time as a service.

The black pan on the front of the transmission is likely leaking from the gasket. You might be lucky and be able to just tighten up the bolts. Otherwise, you will need to replace the gasket on the DSG cover.
