Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

      Did APR stage 1 on a manual mk6 cost $1200 , on sale , power 188kw torks 400nm , from 2000km , no issues till 35000km did a coil .
Economy was actually better , no torque steer issues , lazy driving , skipping gears , great for country cruising .
Did my mk5 with Power chip , now out of business i think not such a big increase no issues .
My current car have not bothered its got plenty of go .
Remember no telling the world , insurance co's in particular .
What ever you pick you will love it .

Golf GTI by Superchips | Auto Express

Bluefin Stage 1 has a very smooth OEM like power delivery, but with a definite jump in grunt. Makes the GTI a better faster and more enjoyable car. Fantastic upgrade! Not much money at all, and with the savings over APR,etc...as mentioned by maltbbe you can get upgrade coilpacks, plugs ....and a GFB DV+!

BWA Auto did my APR tune (and servicing) when I used to live in Sydney and come highly recommended, even though it was a big of a drive for me. (they also happen to be a sponsor of this place ). I was always happy with their service and trusted their advice.

My personal opinion is that you are best to use whatever your local VW Specialist uses and recommends since they will be looking after the servicing after the tune is done. It's much better if they know what they are looking at when they are looking after your car longer term. The differences between most tunes is relatively small anyway.

Again personally, I like APR for all the R&D they invest in their products which is one of the reasons I chose them back when I had my car done but I get it's probably one of the more expensive options out there.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

I've been looking into a stage 1 tune also and my mechanic at VA Garage on the Gold Coast couldn't recommend the bluefin superchips enough.

Said he had it on his mk6 GTI without it causing any issues at all and if you're not doing a tonne of track days it was plenty powerful for the road.

and vorace, gotta ask did you see any noticeable improvements with the GFB DV+ watched a couple youtube vids of dudes disappointed it didnt make any dose noises but with a tune i'd imagine the boost having better re-circulation would make a nice different keeping the boost up high.

                  Hey StuDUB,

There was a small improvement with the DV+. With the tune it holds boost better and more evenly especially when shifting gears under heavy throttle. Of course there is no real new whooshing blow off noises....which is great for me.

I thought the Bluefin was a conservative tune, but I did see on the Superchips website they had a dyno camparo between Superchips Bluefin and others like APR, and to my surprise they were very similar!

The car is plenty powerful enough for road and track especially as it is FWD. I did a trackday at Phillip Island recently and the traction control lite was flickering down the main straight at the top of 4th gear! The car was getting to nearly 220 kmh down the straight.
