Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Mk7 cluster swap

I'd like to install a mk7 cluster in my 2009 Golf 6, It currently has a highline cluster installed.
There's plenty of mk6 -> mk5 retro content available online, but I'm struggling to find much by way of mk7 -> mk6

Has anyone had this done to their 6? Used clusters can be sourced from the eu for about $250 aud, so it doesn't seem too prohibitively expensive on the face of it.

I'd love to be able to find someone who's confident with the procedure in Melbourne, but I'm also not against buying a kit from AliExpress and tackling it myself - provided it's actually 100% possible in the first place.

    Cheers

Not possible to go to Mk7 cluster. Its a different platform (MQB) to your PQ platform cluster.
The closest you can do it upgrade to a 3D colour cluster out of a MY16 Tiguan or Scirocco depending what sort of Golf you have.
This has the full colour MFD in the centre compared to the white screen you have now.
Still non-trivial as the immobilizer data is in the cluster, so needs to be extracted from your existing cluster and written to the new cluster, as well as the mileage corrected.

Well that explains why every tutorial online is about Sirocco and Jetta 'premium 3d color' swaps.

Immo3 swaps honestly don't seem too daunting to me, there's plenty of walkthroughs available online - it's just sourcing an attractive diesel cluster is so much harder.

        Thanks for the quick answer!

Immo3 hasn't been used for about 15 years.
Golf 5 and 6 are immo 4 and immo 4c.
