DSG when stopped, is yours rough???

Hi all.

Just got a TSI Jetta. DSG all that. Anyway, before I take it back to get a few niggles fixed I'd like to check something with the gearbox.

I find it quite rough when stopped at lights etc. Now as far as I understood it goes in to nutral, so there should be no roughness at all, as its not in gear. Is this just me being fussy, as in is this just how the box works. Or should be be smooth as when stopped.

The main thing that makes me wonder is, if I put it in nutral, then back in to D it doesnt seem as bad.

The engine also seems to have a bit of a I guess dip/miss in it too when idleing.

For me it depends on what else is running, especially A/C.

When no accessories are running it is noticeably smoother.

The clutch is activated when you have your foot on the brake pedal but not otherwise e.g. it will ride the clutch against the handbrake if you just use that.

Exactly - the ECU selects 1st - not neutral and if you have your foot on the brake pedal the clutch will be disengaged. The selected gear will be displayed in the MFD.
As Spoody says: if you are in the habit of using the handbrake at lights it will be fighting the clutch.
Mine is perfectly smooth when stopped in D, definitely put it on you dealer list if it’s not.

You probably need to give us more information on what you mean by "rough".

I certainly haven't experienced anything like that with mine.

no roughness at standstill here either.
with the brake on its still in first gear but has the clutch engaged. thats why when you lift your foot off the brake it pauses slightly before starting to roll forward, as it is disengaging the clutch to make you move.

Well thats basically how I know its rough. It is smooooth as when i click it in to neutral, then click it back in to drive you feel a bit of a clunk, and its smoother than it was when it was in D before I put it in to N. If all that makes sense.

But you have all basically answered the question Its stuffed and needs fixing.

By rough I mean, you easily notice it. Its quite a clunk when putting it in to N. And I never use the handbrake for hill starts.

Get it looked at ASAP, in fact immediatley. Its sounds like the clutch adjustment and if it is then youre clutches are being worn out while youre sitting there as they are not properly disengaging.

Well I spoke to them today. Explained the problem, along with rementioning all the other little niggles (which are only niggles).

I said I needed a car, as no public transport to my work, or decent enough to get me back. So she said well the 5th if your happy with a caddy or 7th if your not. So then I asked her, can this problem really wait that long. To a reply of NO. Im well, I need a car, can you ask sales. Then her boss gets on the phone. "Can I test drive it", no I work in Manly. "Oh, so whats it doing exactly". Explained it again... To a reply of "oh, thats just a software problem, just bring it in on the 5th"

So thats interesting... Hey if it blows up its their problem. That said sitting at lights I'm putting it in N. And well, with the truck strike, no more stop start traffic!

I know this kinda out of topic. When my 2 weeks old GTi is on idle, i noticed a knocking sound coming out of the exhaust. The engine is all warm up and ive driven it for a bit.

am i making sense? share your thoughts please!!! much appreciate it !!

Ok, well I got mine 'fixed' today, ie I got fobbed off saying nothing is wrong. The service guy was far from convincing. Basically said, sometimes you get a good one, other times you dont...

If there are some especially kind VW owners over on the southside of Brisbane, I would REALLY appreciate a drive of your DSG boxed cars. Just around the block would be fine to test what I want to test. I'm a defencive driving instructor in my spare time, so rest assured your car would be safe in my hands.

I had minor issues with my car, they didn't hesitate in providing me with a replacement car for the day while they checked out what was wrong. Persistence generally pays. VWOP in WA has quite good customer service.

Its just a major inconvenience...

And as much as I'd love to go to WA, it is a bit far to drive for a service :p

I find if I don't have my foot hard enough on the brake pedal it will shudder and feel rough.
