Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Agree with DAN682, if your foot is not solid on the brake it will make a little noise.

I never notice any shudder while stopping at light for my GTI DSG, but i always notice right before it comes to stop, when the clutch jumps back to 1st gear, its very noticeable that i can even hear a "deep" click sound in the gear change, is this normal just being so loud, or its a problem ???

more than happy with mine very smooth just sometimes the shift from 1st to 2nd can be a bit sharp or jerky apart from that pretty much seamless, can alos be a bit jerky when moving very slowly in heavy traffic if you are not smooth with the throttle.

So anyway, anyone keen to let me test theirs out? Id kind of like to get it sorted sooner rather than later.

My Golf GT DSG was rough when coming to a stop at lights etc. It shuddered when coming to a slow stop. When taking your foot off the brake to roll away when the lights turned green it also shuddered.

We took it back to the dealer who agreed who put it on the computer for testing and couldn't find anything. They took it for a drive and felt the problem for themselves and admitted that it should not do it. They organized a replacement DSG gearbox which took a few weeks to arrive and since having it fitted we haven't had any trouble.

                      Well quick update.

How the gearbox works was explained to me a little better. So although I'm not 100%, I'll put up with it. I guess I might have been just expecting too much.

That said, the service manager was just trying to make up excuses the whole time as to why things weren't explained properly in the first place, and why I was told 18s are better than 17s... I mean, I would have been happy had he just said, 'no idea why you were told that, he must have been having a bad day, I'm sorry for the confusion'. But no.

My dealer recalibrated the DSG the other day. Involved the mechanic giving it **** afterwards too. He was smiling when he got back so I guess that means mine performs normally!?!! lol

Anyway, its much better now! So much nicer to drive and it doesn't seem anywhere near as dumb as it used to be.

But he said to monitor it and if it does it again to bring it in. They've replaced a few gearboxes after they've started shuddering and slipping excessively.

                          Dave,

No worries if you want to drive mine mate. Just let me know when you want to line it up. I can head your way or you can head mine since im northside, either way...

At least then we will know if they are similar or something is up. Sometimes i think mine does weird things but most of the time im pretty damn happy with it

                          Cheers

My GTI has done less than 4000kms and the DSG is clunky as hell. I have taken it back a couple of times and had it reset. Thinking of contacting VW Australia

Yeah prob worth it. I don't think either of us are going to get more similar cars to compare! As i think i've already said, my problem its not all the time, if it was as annoying as it would be you could accept it.
So when works good for you? That or we just organise a SEQ my dsg sucks cruise.
Either way i've just gone nuts on the stereo, so the vibration from that should mask the problem!

I have that clicking noise also when the clutch kicks in. For me it only happens when in Reverse. Had the VW service centre check it out and was told it's normal, only happens in R though and not D. I had a thread about before about DSG Reverse lagging and apparently it's just the way it is
