getting back to this thread.
My car was in for its 15,000km service today. Mentioned the steering groan and after inspecting it they have ordered a new steering rack for my car.

I have a grinding noise when I'm turning right, while you guys have experienced it turning left. Car goes in tomorrow (for a new aircon and a bunch of other stuff), and the dealer wants to replace suspension parts as per other cars in this thread.
I suspect that this won't fix and if this turns out to be right I guess I'll just have to take it back for a new steering rack/bushes/something else.

My R32 went in for its 30,000 km service last week. We had no issues for the dealer when it went in, but they picked up a problem with the rack and are going to replace it.
I must say that I continue to be very happy with my dealer, which seems contrary to many experiences. They gave the wife a Mk 6 Comfortline TDI 2.0 as a replacement whilst the car was being serviced. She quite liked it, though we'll be waiting for the new R...whenever that appears.MY08 R32, DSG, Sunroof, RNS510

No issues whatsoever since - car drives like new.
Don't worry, be happy.

When they replaced the steering rack on mine the noise completely disappeared for ~10 months. The noise is now back and sounds identical to that caused by the faulty rack. I sincerely hope it is the bearings. Here's hoping....

which is good because my GTI scares prospective buyers off with its groaning noises when steering (makes me angry)
going in next week for the steering which groans when turning left. hopefully they also fix the centre console which sounds like its about to fall off and after a long country drive I need to bring up why my car gets bouncy after about 30 min driving and starts crashing over bumps (front shocks are overheating and then begin to fade).
Pretty sure these vehicles, although well designed, are just not built for our conditions.Last edited by Guest212; 24-07-2009, 11:42 AM.
