I've been waiting on VW selling Premium Bluetooth since March 08. The last i heard was it had been delayed until Nov 08.
I had a call from the dealer today, she reckons "first week of October." Apparently VW had a working kit but it didn't work with a large number of popular Australian phones, so they went back to the drawing board or something.
HP & Volkspower quote $1,500 installed. Assuming the install is less than $1,000 (which it would be), the better bet would be buy from Stu and get it installed. I've heard from HP that it's only a 3 hr install.
Does anyone know what the item/install split is of the $1,500?
I would guess the VW dealership is full of it, as BT compatibility is not market specific and neither is the range of phones available worldwide!?
NOW MY08 CW GTI DSG - LEATHER + SUNROOF + RNS510 + RPS. NEXT APR Stage 1 + VW Bluetooth & MDI for RNS510 LATER 19" Oettinger RXX Charcol Diamond Cut
Fitting is around 3 hours (~ $300) - the unit is $1100 with a full plug & play adapter. This is the VW UHV Low kit.
Now our kit is designed to be sold through VW dealers with a three year warranty on a new vehicle & the kit MUST be fitted by one of our dealers or a VW dealer to qualify for the warranty.
If you don't know the history, there have been at least 4 cases of fried RNS510's, fried RCD500's & blown Can Controllers from incorrectly fitted systems.
We do not want ANY warranty issues with VW at all, and need to back & support the unit. We also have our own list of tested phones (thats growing daily) for support.
We are also currently testing the UHV high kits in our test cars & should offer that soon as well!

I called two dealers in brisbane yesterday (not hard to find which ones) and they both said they dont have the computer set up to get them working i,e, they can install it but it wont intergrate with the screen on the instrument cluster and the cars computer wont recognise it. They said to contact you guys for the install. Are they just speaking ****?
We currently supply to many dealers around the country.
It depends on model to model, but we match a unit to your cars spec, your MFD etc. but they have full factory integration.
Just drop us a line - as you can tell by the posts the information can be a little cloudy out there from the dealerships (not intentional - just how the info filters through). send an email to alex@hp.net.au with your vehicle specs or give us a quick call 1300 730 949 & we will run thjrough it with you.

What is the plug and play adapter and what is the VW UHV kit.?
I just got the 510 and the BT kit like VRstu sells and installed myself, nothing else was required.
There are two VW standards UHV Low & UHV High. There are over 35 bluetooth kit variations. You are welcome to pop in & we will show you our no splice, no crimp plug and play loom.

The loom is cool and definitely the best way to fit the bluetooth, I'm fitting one of these to my car shortly once I work out what I'm doing with the reverse camera.

What sort of car do you have?
Is it possible to retrofit a reverse camera and activate functionality on the RNS510?

What's the difference? And where can one get the VW Bluetooth?
If it's worthwhile I might get the Parrot swapped for the VW one...
Cheers
Steffen.
Harding Performance supply and fit this in Brisbane and other places around the country. Or you can do it yourself, it's not that hard but it helps if you're not a klutz and have some knowledge of what you're doing.

Golf GTI 08, yes it is. I'll be doing a writeup on it when I do it. You're looking at around $1000 for the parts but this includes the controller that gives you parking lines etc. There is another option I'm looking at as well that doesn't give you the lines and avoids the need for the controller.
I also plan to install the camera into the rear vw badge and have it motorised to tilt back when in reverse to expose the camera. A new model out in the US has this so it may be a retrofit option which would require the controller above so it depends on the price.
Still gathering information at the moment as not many have done this.

I'd be very keen to see how you go with this.. I was really dissapointed that there was no camera functionality enabled when i ordered mine.
Where did you get the parts from?

Still working on that, I have parts prices from Australia and they are something like $700 for the controller, the loom from the front to the back of the car is $400-500 and I can get this for ~$130 from Germany. I can buy the kit with controller, camera (the standard one) and loom for around $900 from Germany.

Cool! But - why would I do it? What does the VW Bluetooth kit do better than the Parrot? Or vice versa, why is the Parrot considered crap in comparison?
