  • Firewall insulation?

    Hey all,

Has anybody replaced the firewall insulation on their golf? Mine has started to deteriorate and is now shedding the insulation in the bay... I wonder what vw charge for a replacement?

I've seen aftermarket ones that look nice but not sure will fit as they are made in the US (LHD)...

If you’re tired of the rate at which the OEM firewall insulation deteriorates and would like to dress up your engine bay, the PTP Firewall Barrier was designed to replace the OEM firewall insulation on the Volkswagen MK5 and MK6 GTIs in addition to the MK6 Golf R. Designed to be a one-time fix for this deterioration problem, the PTP Firewall Barrier also provides superior thermal resistance and sound deadening over the factory insulation. With the front layer made from actual pulverized volcanic lava rock (continuous-filament basalt) formed into fabric and woven into a tight mesh weave, these firewall blankets are internally insulated with high temperature calcium magnesium silicate wool, overlaid with a high temperature silicone fiberglass.

An alternative would be using mine (or what's left of it) as a template and DIY with another product - open to suggestions...?

    Cheers- Adrian.

Not sure how clear the pic is but at the top above the intake you can see where it's wearing away and not secured to the firewall anymore

Was it much from VW ?

Also, is it just held in place by the 2 circular clips?

I ordered it from USA along with a bunch of other bits and pieces. I'll look up the link for you. Yes it just uses 2x round metal screw-in clip things to hold it on.

Thanks mate, that's not too bad. No doubt Aus VW will charge about 3 times that.

          Cheers.
