  • Top 5 things you do when you first pick up the car

    Hi Guys,

I will be picking up my Golf GT TSI tomorrow

Just wondering what do you guys do after you pick up the car.

e.g. wax the car? tint it? go hard on the accelerator even though its new?

I'm thinking to firstly get it properly wax and detailed follow by a tint.

    Thanks

Make sure they have removed the spring spacers too.

Check for paint scratches, and other blemishes before you leave the dealership.

Do a search on "running in" if you want to find out how hard to drive it from new.

Check that all the bits and pieces are there (eg spare wheel, jack, locking nut key), no obvious paint/trim blemishes (best to look in daylight, dry).

Get salesman to show you how the minor controls work (lights, wipers, heater, ICE, alarm/locking) unless you already know.

        Enjoy the drive

              1. Sit inside it, on the driveway feeling please with yourself.

              2. Give it a polish and clean.

              3. Show it to all your mates.

Just got a call from VW saying my car will not be ready today due to a broken seat belt on passenger side!

                what a load of cr@p!!

because of that is it illegal to release the car!

It has been so hard to get this car i'm starting to think either i'm jinx or it not suppose to be for me.

i'm very close to cancel the whole deal now unless someone can suggest something else.

                Thanks

I'd be happy they found the broken part BEFORE delivery.

Don't worry about a small problem .. means that they actually do pre delivery check!

When you get it go for a spirited drive into the hills .. the accelaration decelaration helps the engine break in .. I kept it below 4000 rpm for teh first few hundred and then slowly brought it up from there .. lots of ways of doign it .. check on the forums .. but I tell you my GTI is the freeest spinning engine I have ever had ..

There are other forums (http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?board=59.0) mods acan delete if they want - but is is cool as it has a list of things you can check prior to signing off on the car.

I used it to a small extent, but you are so itching to get out there in that beast that I gave mine a cursory glance for the things I thoguht might be called up as nt beig warrantable ie paint scratches, wheel scrapes etc.

Good luck when you get it and yes .. post pics ..

i guess when you guys put it that way it make more sense.

it just that it has been delayed 3 times now. First it was the ship delayed which i understand, second they couldnt get it out of the port in time and now the seat belt

i have been looking forward to it for 2 months now! oh well i guess a few more days.

Do you guys think its dodgy of me if i ask for free Mat and full tank of petrol for the trouble caused?

Dude it should come with a full tank of juice!

                        Things to do:

                        1. Make sure you have the whole day off work.

                        2. Plan the long and twisty mountainous way home.

                        3. Sneak a peek down the finance girlies top.

                        4. Don't try and eat any gift basket goodies on the drive home, very messy!

                        5. Give it some on the way home, upchange early and don't be afraid to floor it, just avoid max revs for the first few hundy.

                        6. Try not to let people see you grinning like an idiot at the lights!

Enjoy the process mate, the hiccups will all be a distant memory in no time!!

Well number one for me was to have a BIG sniff of new car smell! Never had that before, so it was extra special.
                          Then yeah drive it.
3-5 don't really matter too much after that

Can't stress line 1 enough.... if nothing else just to hear the salesman bleat.

When I got my GTI they had to transfer my plates from my old Golf over, I refused to have the surrounds put on...then proceeded to walk around the car and have the three, yes three, dealer stickers removed from the windows.

When the salesman protested I told him I did not see any discount in the contract for me to be advertising his business...all he had to do was discuss it with me.... he never said another word.
