  • BVY vs. BPY Engines

    Hi all,

Have noticed that a lot of the references/information on the internet that is related to the 2.0 FSI refers to engine code BPY. My car has a BVY engine code, and I was wondering how similar these engines are in terms of servicing and in their overall design. It seems as though there is barely info about the BVY online. For example does the BVY have the problematic cam follower like on the BPY?

    Cheers,
    Michael

BPY is the 147kw FSI Turbo. So the same as the AXX and BWA motors we get here in the MK5 Golf GTI, and Jetta.

The BVY motor is largely the same motor, once you strip the manifolds off it. I believe the fuel systems are pretty much identical, down to the high-pressure fuel pump. So yes, I'd say they'd be prone to cam follower wear too.

Thanks a lot, so would procedures like changing the oil and doing the timing belt be similar to the BPY then as well?

Oil changes are much the same.

Timing belt is slightly different, requiring different parts.
