I purchased a 2005 Golf 2L FSI automatic at an auction recently. Good clean one owner car with 88,000km,s. The problem with auctions is that you cannot drive the vehicles. I have since discovered the following faults that if I had driven the car I would have picked up.
1. The electro mechanical steering is vague when on the freeway. It does not appear to center and requires continual movement of the steering wheel to keep the car running straight. Very tiring on a long drive. There are no fault lights on in the dash. Anybody had similar problems
2. Once the automatic gearbox warms up it clunks into gear on changing down. Very annoying as you are waiting for the car to judder every time it changes down. I currently use the car in tiptronic mode to overcome this problem but, it is my wifes car and she is not happy that I sold her perfectly good Mk4 Golf and replaced it with what she says is a "Dud". I know these gearboxes are sealed for life but, I worked for Shell and know that oils degrade with heat. Would a change of gearbox filter and oil improve the situation?
