Wandered into a London VW dealer the other day, just to see what was what. A couple of things surprised me a bit. Firstly, the cars on display simply weren't as well prepared as I'm used to in dealerships here. In particular, the paintwork on most was well below delivery standard (major swirl/polish issues), and a couple still bore small scars. In the second hand lot, there were some interesting cars (I rather liked a 3.2 Eos), but for very recent cars, they didn't seem to have been well looked after.

Equipment levels seem to differ a bit. Dual mode climate control was obvious by its absence (from cars in which it's standard here). The trim range, in particular the leathers, seemed larger than we get.

I rather liked an Edition 30 GTI, but it wouldn't fit in the luggage.

interesting huh, maybe the crappy weather forces them to wash the vehicles more often which result in the swirling!?

Maybe the lack of sun doesn't motivate a nice wax and polish as the car won't sparkle?

maybe its because VW in the UK isnt looked at in the same light as it is here..over its a "Euro" brand has had some exclusiveness about it (ok..less so these days). I wouldnt say they are low end in the UK but they are more like your run of the mill mazdas, fords, holdens etc over here.

THerefore less care about brand reputation, but thats just a thought...maybe the cleaner had a week off work

i test drove an R32 over there about 2 years ago and there certainly isnt the same vibe(if i can use that) in dealerships as you get over here.

...and the spec level of the UK cars differs from those over here. From memory, leather is an option on the R32.
