Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

What have you done to the exhaust
    GT/GTI I wish

It's a Sportline so sits lower than a Trendline or a Comfortline.

I've added standard GTI Denver wheels and a GTI valance, the exhausts now come straight out rather than curving down as were factory with the original valance, my GTI hatch spoiler goes on this weekend.

I know, I should have bought a GTI but I didn't have the budget and the mods so far have been quite reasonable.

I've also fitted GTI side skirts, these are inexpensive from VW and add instant sportiness (is that a word?).

Ultimately I'm going for a sportier look (GTI styling in my case).

With regards the exhaust, I wanted tips that filled the GTI valances exhaust opening well, I think I've achieved this.

How did you get the sideskirts for cheap?
When i enquired about the parts i was quoted around $300, im not sure if thats what you considered cheap

            Thanks vraptor

I thought they were cheap compared to the price of the rear valance or GTI front bumper from VW.

I hind sight I should have bought them new from VW, the skirts I bought were advertised as "brand new with all fittings ready to fit" by the seller, when I received them not only were they obviously removed from a previous owners car but one skirt was cracked and the four mounting brackets which are needed to fit weren't included, theses brackets were $20.00 each from my local VW dealer.

All up cost me as much as new would have been, oh well, lesson learned, ask more questions before buying.

On a more positive note the rear valance and hatch spoiler sellers were brilliant, no problems or complications what so ever.

The last exterior mod (front bumper) will be done next week

Could have been me, I was going to buy them and then he never stopped messaging me for about a week afterwards.

Haha 'mufflerectomied' love it. Really good coilovers are in. Hard to tell how good they are until I take them for a good drive as my area is really bumpy! Had a bit of inner guard work to do on the rear too. But I think it's all sorted now.

Getting the rear valance quoted this week too.

Should upload some picks of it lowered. I think I'm gonna start a build thread to document what I've done thus far.

No, not Rob, the member I bought them from originally bought them from Rob I believe.

Hehe kind of beats buying an OEM front valance with lip that doesnt fit my car, yet fits everyone elses, never got an answer to that

Did you have to rewire the top brake light since they are a bit different?

                            G'day mate and thanks.

I had to remove the original brake light (that was a pain in the ....), but once I pulled that out and unplugged it's connection the new brake light plugs into that same socket, easy.

awesome! did you have to get it colour matched and how does it actually attach to the body?

                              • I was very lucky, the spoiler came off a wrecked Black Magic GTI, so paint was exactly the same as my car, no damage was done to the spoiler during removal either

My panel shop said most body kits are simply glued on these days (which I believe is the case with these spoilers) so I asked him what he uses, so I took his advice and used Sikaflex-227 (Black). You can pick a tube up for $14.50 from Bunnings ($17.95 from Super Cheap).

Once glued down (I used plenty) I taped it down and left it over night, worked a treat

                                I hope this helps.
